It’s very common for us to think or feel something and immediately believe it to be a fact. For instance, when we struggle with anxiety, we might have thoughts like ‘Something bad is going to happen today,’ or experience feelings of worry, and then assume that just because we had that thought or feeling, it must be true: ‘something bad is going to happen today.’ It’s important to recognize thoughts and feelings for what they truly are, rather than magnifying them and treating them as factual predictors of the future.

It’s so important that we recognize when we have reached our capacity and need to say “no.” When we allow our “people-pleasing part” to take control, it is inevitable that we will overfill our calendar and thus, will be more likely to be stressed and overwhelmed. Try the phrase “I will get back to you soon” and watch the magic happen. ✨

Do you ever catch yourself saying mean things to yourself? Every time we allow negative self-talk, it increases our likelihood of engaging in more negative self-talk. Try changing out a negative for a positive and watch it improve your mood and behavior! 🙌🏼👏🏻

With what feels like frequent scary/bad news, this reminder remains imperative to taking care of yourself. ⬇️

💥PROTECT YOURSELF! I made this mistake today. I opened up social media mindlessly, saw another video of the terrors from over the weekend, and experienced a vicarious trauma reaction. We are not immune to trauma reaction because we were not experiencing a scary/traumatic/unexpected event directly, we can still experience symptoms. These secondary trauma symptoms can look like increased fear, anxiety, sleep issues, sadness, flashbacks, nightmares, lack of motivation, among many other things.

Before you turn on your television or car radio, open that news app, or pull up your Instagram or any other social media, check-in on yourself. If you are already having a difficult day or feeling bad in one way or another, choose to wait to expose yourself to these mass media sources. If you choose to expose yourself now, be ready to check-in on yourself again. If you see something that has the *trigger warning* or looks like information that could be troubling, don’t let curiosity get the best of you. Close it out, or choose a way of exposure that is less overwhelming when trying to learn more about recent news.

You are the only one who can take care of you! Hang in there friends, we are in this together! ❤️‍🩹

Today is the last part of my current four-part series all about “Happy Chemicals!” 🧠 This series teaches about four important brain neurotransmitters that assist in mood regulation.

Last but definitely not least, ENDORPHINS! Endorphins are known as the brain’s natural pain reliever 💊 and have a huge impact on overall wellness. Proper endorphin levels are linked to decreased stress, better self-esteem and confidence, a more regulated appetite, increased pleasure, improved mood, and a healthier immune system.👏🏻 Alternatively, low endorphin levels are shown to contribute to many problems including increased body aches, sleep problems, increased chances for addiction, moodiness, depression, and even worsened chances for inflammatory diseases.

So how do we hack this special “happy chemical,” anyway? Here are a few ways:

• Move your body! 💃🏽🏊🏻‍♀️
• Work on improving sleep (look up sleep hygiene tips!)
• Receive dry needling treatment from a Physical Therapist or acupuncture from a Certified Acupuncturist
•Listen to music or watch a feel-good show
•Engage in meditation and/or prayer 🙏🏻
•Take a hot bath
•Get creative and do a craft or color! 🖍️
•Use aromatherapy (orange, rosemary, or lavender are great places to start!)

Question: How are you going to boost endorphin levels today? Answer below in the comments!
