This little November-born honey loved her herbal bath after birth while her oldest sister marveled at her perfection.
When mom doesn’t quite make it in before birth, we make good use of the warm water afterwards 😉

This is the 3rd sweet sister for this repeat family and 2nd birth. 🩷

Z family, thank you for letting us love on you again for this pregnancy, labor and birth. It is always such a joy to see your family grow. We love you guys so much! 🥰

9 weeks ago….November 🩷

Humble brag: we were so blessed in 2025 with such amazing families. It never gets old taking care of good, solid gold people. NTM it’s simply a flattering bonus when it’s people who have a special family connection to your own mentor who had a big part of your being a big girl midwife. 🩷

As with all families planning out of hospital birth we always discuss having a plan for the unexpected. We never expect the unexpected but sometimes our baby or mama needs something different in labor.

This family labored so well together at the and when we transitioned to OU Children’s for more continuous monitoring to keep a closer eye and rest for mom, it was no different. This husband, spouse, partner, father was IN IT for the duration of this labor. Through every breath, groan, concern, word of encouragement, hard decision, doubt and forehead kiss.

Watching their family support gently and confidently was also something to behold.

L family, it’s been such an honor to care for you and watch you become parents to this sweet babe. You make good babies 🤩🩷

✨2025✨

✨Unending gratitude for such a beautiful year.

✨We welcomed 22 new families to the WBS family & saw the growth of 32 established families, some of which were 3,4 & 5-peat families 🥹

✨As a Birthworker, we’re always in pursuit of finding the best balance between the ever changing family dynamics and the work that not only brings joy (and pays bills), this was the first year your girl took extended time off call (6 weeks) during the holidays. ✨This was the second year she had a kid in a competitive sport that required travel.

✨As always, NONE of this would be possible without the support and understanding of the families I serve, the community of peer midwives and the many specialty practitioners that work along side us to keep our clients well, healthy, safe and whole🙏🏻

✨ I am SO grateful to of gotten to have those experiences as I continue to seek the right balance between my service calling, family and friends.

✨We are looking forward to continuing to serve and grow our community in 2026✨

October-

Nothing brings more joy than redemption. I can’t say enough about this family and nothing said here can at all in anyway do justice to the absolute beauty of their hearts.

We met a couple of years ago, with their first pregnancy. Full of wonder and awe like many first time parents. For a few necessary and beautiful reasons, we transferred to hospital during labor, got a little help and had beautiful birth of a perfectly plump now big brother.

This pregnancy was such a welcome surprise for them and we came back together for care and a plan that created such support, care & crafting within their labor/birth/postpartum.

Watching moments in the systems of families, fathers, mothers, grandparents and aunts be rewritten, rescripted to reflect a completion of a purpose, a desire felt so deeply within them. Knowing something not of earth draws them near to it without expectation or explanation is powerful. Watching someone remember who they are and grow their roots deeper into that will never be lost through the eyes of a Midwife. Through me as a human. 🥹

✨The seemingly simple act of moving your baby through you and looking down to see his squishy little self, being given a moment to pause and wonder at what you’ve done then to be able to just….. pick him up.. yourself and fold him into you…✨Magic✨

C family, it is without doubt an honor to serve your family and love you deeply in your raw and vulnerable moments. It’s nice to be reminded of the WHY in this work from time to time. Thank you for the gifts of your trust and the thousands of laughs 🩷

*Warm Fuzzies*

When a family comes & slides effortlessly into care and you just LOVE the bits and parts of them to their whole selves.

This family is precious and sweet in all the ways.

This mama and daddy did the things together for this pregnancy to cultivate a safe, peaceful and confident labor and birth environment. They set the mood.
They had excellent family support and sibling support. They worked so beautifully together. 🩷It was intimate. It was safe in all the right ways and it grew them together 🥹

W family, thank you for inviting us on your journey! It’s been an honor to listen, learn and grow with you. 🩷

✨Growth occurs in the most uncomfortable of spaces.✨

Birth is no different. Actually, it’s a perfect opportunity 🩷

This family came into care looking for different this time. From their care, to their birth… the theme: ✨different✨

With two wonderful, medicated, hospital births already, they asked for something new and listened to their intuition.

P family, it’s been a joy to help you achieve something that felt and looked changed for your family.

We are SO glad to of been given the honor to hold space as you navigated this journey.

Thank you for your trust 🩷🙏🏻

They say babies don’t keep. They’re right. My baby is 7. There won’t be other babies after her and a baby hasn’t been buttoned or snapped in these clothes in a while.

As I’ve pulled these boxes from the deepest, darkest corner of my closet and taken the hangers out of the last remaining “I’m gonna resale these” items… I honestly, truly couldn’t bear letting go of that had been taking up a large-small ish section of the same closet…. Some smaller ones making it to my daughter’s baby dolls…. Im sad. In the most beautiful way.

It’s like how they say it is. When you’re done w babies, you’re done but….. gosh I am so grateful I got to have those experiences 🥹

Knowing that there was a long and emotional season of infertility and pregnancy losses that preceded parenthood … mothering 😮‍💨

If I could look at that 20-30-something Brandy and encourage her to live beyond decades of infertility miscarriages & concerns. I would have told her to travel more. I would have told her to keep growing herself, heal her heart, unpack the enormous, dark and complicated burdens that would impact mothering, being a good spouse, friend and human. Dont wish it away.

I would tell her that her body is so smart and capable and not broken. That this season is as worthy as any of the others she’ll grow through in this life.

I would tell her that mothering is harder and lonelier than than were told and that what she holds inside herself will be challenged, worn, broken and rebuilt by it — but also what grows out of that is something stronger and as whole as she has felt…ever and more was coming.

You have time.

Hold your babies, but please hold yourselves. You are not a burden, you are not alone. You aren’t fu***ng them up. Mistakes and apologies are apart of the journey…no one gives a s**t about the nursery, you can’t control anyone but yourself. You can’t spoil a baby. Feed them how you want and need to. Your mental health is most important. Marry a man who worships and adores you and wants to grow with you so when you have his babies, he knows exactly what you need, how to love you and himself. Your intuition knows more than anyone else could ever tell you. Listen.

Slate grey nevus, also known as blue-grey spots or congenital dermal melanocytosis, are a type of birthmark that are typically flat and blue-grey, or sometimes purple, in colour.

They are most common on babies with Black and Brown skin and are generally found on the sacrum and buttocks, but can also be observed on arms and legs.

Slate grey nevus are NOT bruises. They are simply the result of pigment cells, or melanocytes, not reaching the surface of the skin.⁣ They do not hurt and generally require no treatment; they often fade by the age of 4.

If you identify a slate grey nevus when doing a baby examination, or NIPE, it is important to document it. This is to avoid it later being mistaken for a bruise.

Finally - you may have heard these birthmarks called ‘Mongolian blue spots’. This is derogatory, racially insensitive terminology and should NOT be used. If you hear it used in practice, please take the time to correct it. We can all play our part in decolonising language and midwifery education.
