*Long post*
**Grief & loss mentioned
Huge joy-filled ending**

🍃When a birth worker is pregnant, grows a baby for months and then labors… births a baby… there’s a weight to it…There’s the buzz of a thousand moments impressed upon her heart- the moments of others.. their joy, hope, excitement, fear… the very essence of life (and death) lives within them. Often, quietly🩷

🍂When a birth worker is pregnant, grows a baby for months & her baby is lost and she births…the weight is held...swallowed….The buzz is of her own cries and the stretching of her own soul… there’s a new understanding that lives inside her now…

✨When a birth worker goes back to “working” after that loss…her bruised heart then finds the ways in which it holds others. Long after her body has healed, her heart is slowly mended..bearing a new scar…
It’s clear she is not doing this work for any earthly reason… it is because she is built for and nourished by it and in someways adequately healed within it.

🌈When a birth worker is carrying a
rainbow inside her for months and it grows and grows in spite of the feeling of holding breath, holding fear.. holding hope..holding other mothers…it grows… and the next time you hear her heart and soul groan, it sounds different and the the breath, the fear and the hope is released… that rainbow has breath, heart, life…

When you hold the hearts of your community as they grow their families while YOU are growing yours… it hits differently.

There’s not enough words that can express or even remotely describe what an honor and a joy it’s been to watch this family grow and evolve through the last couple years of their experiences. Watching these big brothers and sisters observe such a life event and participate w excitement was so fun and special 🥹 They will always remember their sister’s birth.

Have you see the “Transitioning to Midwifery Models of Care: Global Position Paper”? Developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) in collaboration with the International Confederation of Midwives (ICM), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), and UNICEF. This groundbreaking paper, led by WHO’s Department of Maternal, Newborn, Child and Adolescent Health and Ageing and supported by technical experts, regional offices, and global stakeholders, represents a unified international commitment to advancing midwifery-led care.

The position paper defines midwifery models of care, outlines guiding principles, and underscores the proven benefits of this approach—including improved outcomes for women and newborns, reduced unnecessary interventions, and better integration within health systems. It calls for collaborative, team-based care and positions midwives as essential to achieving high-quality, cost-effective maternal and newborn health services under Universal Health Coverage.

ACNM welcomes this global recognition and reaffirms our dedication to advancing midwifery models of care both in the U.S. and worldwide.

Let’s continue working together to center midwifery in health systems and improve outcomes for all.

11 weeks ago, November 24th

This happened.

This family + their bestie did some super hard deeply transformative soul growing mother making work.

Not because it was a hard or difficult or different labor than anyone else experiences, but because it was THE experience and the work she required deep down to move and free the parts of her held in the belief that she was limited.

The work done during the growth and expansion of your deepest parts is worthy and it is not lost on us what that means for you, your baby and this earth. ❤️ keep being the change.
The way maker W family.

It has been a privilege, pleasure and honor 🥹

This little November-born honey loved her herbal bath after birth while her oldest sister marveled at her perfection.
When mom doesn’t quite make it in before birth, we make good use of the warm water afterwards 😉

This is the 3rd sweet sister for this repeat family and 2nd birth. 🩷

Z family, thank you for letting us love on you again for this pregnancy, labor and birth. It is always such a joy to see your family grow. We love you guys so much! 🥰

Humble brag: we were so blessed in 2025 with such amazing families. It never gets old taking care of good, solid gold people. NTM it’s simply a flattering bonus when it’s people who have a special family connection to your own mentor who had a big part of your being a big girl midwife. 🩷

As with all families planning out of hospital birth we always discuss having a plan for the unexpected. We never expect the unexpected but sometimes our baby or mama needs something different in labor.

This family labored so well together at the and when we transitioned to OU Children’s for more continuous monitoring to keep a closer eye and rest for mom, it was no different. This husband, spouse, partner, father was IN IT for the duration of this labor. Through every breath, groan, concern, word of encouragement, hard decision, doubt and forehead kiss.

Watching their family support gently and confidently was also something to behold.

L family, it’s been such an honor to care for you and watch you become parents to this sweet babe. You make good babies 🤩🩷

✨2025✨

✨Unending gratitude for such a beautiful year.

✨We welcomed 22 new families to the WBS family & saw the growth of 32 established families, some of which were 3,4 & 5-peat families 🥹

✨As a Birthworker, we’re always in pursuit of finding the best balance between the ever changing family dynamics and the work that not only brings joy (and pays bills), this was the first year your girl took extended time off call (6 weeks) during the holidays. ✨This was the second year she had a kid in a competitive sport that required travel.

✨As always, NONE of this would be possible without the support and understanding of the families I serve, the community of peer midwives and the many specialty practitioners that work along side us to keep our clients well, healthy, safe and whole🙏🏻

✨ I am SO grateful to of gotten to have those experiences as I continue to seek the right balance between my service calling, family and friends.

✨We are looking forward to continuing to serve and grow our community in 2026✨

October-

Nothing brings more joy than redemption. I can’t say enough about this family and nothing said here can at all in anyway do justice to the absolute beauty of their hearts.

We met a couple of years ago, with their first pregnancy. Full of wonder and awe like many first time parents. For a few necessary and beautiful reasons, we transferred to hospital during labor, got a little help and had beautiful birth of a perfectly plump now big brother.

This pregnancy was such a welcome surprise for them and we came back together for care and a plan that created such support, care & crafting within their labor/birth/postpartum.

Watching moments in the systems of families, fathers, mothers, grandparents and aunts be rewritten, rescripted to reflect a completion of a purpose, a desire felt so deeply within them. Knowing something not of earth draws them near to it without expectation or explanation is powerful. Watching someone remember who they are and grow their roots deeper into that will never be lost through the eyes of a Midwife. Through me as a human. 🥹

✨The seemingly simple act of moving your baby through you and looking down to see his squishy little self, being given a moment to pause and wonder at what you’ve done then to be able to just….. pick him up.. yourself and fold him into you…✨Magic✨

C family, it is without doubt an honor to serve your family and love you deeply in your raw and vulnerable moments. It’s nice to be reminded of the WHY in this work from time to time. Thank you for the gifts of your trust and the thousands of laughs 🩷

*Warm Fuzzies*

When a family comes & slides effortlessly into care and you just LOVE the bits and parts of them to their whole selves.

This family is precious and sweet in all the ways.

This mama and daddy did the things together for this pregnancy to cultivate a safe, peaceful and confident labor and birth environment. They set the mood.
They had excellent family support and sibling support. They worked so beautifully together. 🩷It was intimate. It was safe in all the right ways and it grew them together 🥹

W family, thank you for inviting us on your journey! It’s been an honor to listen, learn and grow with you. 🩷
