Since its inception in 2006, the Okmulgee County Wellness Coalition has been an effective forum where community partners gather to discuss matters pertaining to the health of Okmulgee County, and collaborate to engage in strategies to address health needs. The OCWC seeks to improve the health and quality of life for all people who live, work and learn in Okmulgee County. Coalition members represen
t many sectors of the county, are deeply concerned about health and wellness, and are committed to the purpose of the organization and its goals. The OCWC is an action-oriented and outcomes-driven partnership which implements population based strategies for long-lasting impact on the health and quality of life for all. The County Health Ranking report for 2014 ranked Okmulgee County as 65th out of 77 for Health Outcomes, and 61st out of 77 for Health Factors. These scores clearly indicate the challenge ahead for health improvement in Okmulgee County, and underscores the need to bring together the many agencies, organizations and individuals that can play key roles in shaping the future of the health status of Okmulgee County. These changes will not come easily, but through the adoption of wellness policies to encourage healthy behaviors, through sharing of resources, and by supporting health improvement efforts, change will most surely come!
