We removed the ADF, DME and a traffic monitor, and installed a new transponder, ADS-B weather/traffic unit and a JPI Engine Monitoring System. It sure cleaned up the panel.

Amber Nolan, 28, landed in Seattle last week on her trek to hitch rides on small planes to every state in the country. That is one way to travel on the cheap. Our state was No. 11 in that journey. Wednesday she arrived in Portland.

ADS-B: Plenty of time to equip? Maybe not

The deadline for automatic dependent surveillance-broadcast (ADS-B) out equipage isn’t as far off as one might think: Mechanics nationwide will have to install the transmitter in about 150 aircraft a day starting Jan. 1, 2013, working five days a week, to meet the 2020 deadline.
