In honor of Women's History Month, join us in celebrating Doris!
Doris Ann Schnieders was born on September 26, 1938, in Kansas City, Kansas. Growing up with nearly 100 first cousins, she was surrounded by family and companionship, forming close bonds that lasted a lifetime. Some of her most cherished memories include sleepovers spent on her grandmother’s porch, filled with laughter and togetherness.
Doris attended Blessed Sacrament Grade School and later Ward High School. She was active from a young age, playing basketball in grade school and participating in the Glee Club and choir during high school, nurturing a lifelong appreciation for music and community involvement.
Doris and her husband, Herb, shared 59 years of marriage. Together, they had five children, two of whom passed away during childhood. Doris is the proud mother of three daughters and grandmother to eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
While raising her family, Doris was a full-time stay-at-home mother, dedicating herself to her children and home. She later worked part-time in retail and spent many years cleaning houses alongside her husband. Doris also gave generously of her time through volunteer service, holding numerous roles within her church and her children’s schools, including serving as both president and vice president of her church circle.
Doris is most proud of her role as a mother, her deep commitment to her church, and being a loving and devoted wife to Herb.
An avid reader throughout her life, Doris also enjoyed attending her children’s and grandchildren’s activities, including sporting events, choir performances, and dance recitals. Family has always been central to her life, whether through Sunday dinners with her immediate family or large gatherings with extended relatives.
Doris is also remembered as a loyal and caring friend. She participated in several bunco groups, book clubs, and social circles, and she especially loved dancing with her husband at weddings and parties, moments that reflected her joy for life, connection, and celebration.
