Signs your mouth is overworking 👄💥
Your mouth, tongue, and jaw should work with ease — not strain.
But when something in the oral system is out of balance, the mouth starts compensating… and the symptoms show up fast.
Here are common signs your mouth is overworking:
😮 Mouth breathing
Your lips stay open because the oral muscles are doing the job your airway should be doing.
👅 Tongue thrust or forward tongue posture
The tongue pushes forward during swallowing or rest because it’s not strong or stable enough to stay up on the palate.
💬 Lisping or unclear speech sounds
Overactive lips or incorrect tongue placement make speech work harder than it should.
😬 Clenching, grinding, or jaw tension
Your jaw muscles step in to stabilize when the tongue isn’t.
🙂 Lip strain or “tight lips” when swallowing
If your chin dimples or your lips purse tightly, your mouth is compensating for a weak swallow pattern.
🦷 Crowded teeth or misalignment
Overactive muscles can influence how teeth erupt and how the jaw grows.
😴 Snoring or restless sleep
Your airway and oral muscles are working overtime at night just to keep things open.
The good news?
You don’t have to live with an overworking mouth.
Myofunctional therapy retrains the tongue, lips, and jaw so they work efficiently, naturally, and in harmony — improving breathing, sleep, facial growth, speech, and comfort.
