A recent study explored the anti-obesity effects of Lactobacillus gasseri, a probiotic strain derived from human breast milk. Animal studies hinted at its potential to curb weight gain and adipose tissue accumulation, prompting researchers to investigate its impact on humans.

The study found that the group taking the higher dose of this probiotic saw a significant drop in belly fat compared to the group taking a placebo. Waist sizes also shrank in both the low and high-dose groups.

This exciting discovery suggests the positive role probiotics play in supporting metabolic health and weight management.

Determining the best supplementation for autoimmune conditions can vary greatly depending on the individual’s specific condition. However, there are some supplements commonly recommended by healthcare practitioners for supporting autoimmune health:

☀️ Vitamin D: Many people with autoimmune conditions have low levels of vitamin D, which plays a crucial role in immune function. Supplementing with vitamin D may help regulate the immune system and reduce inflammation.
🐟 Omega-3 fatty acids: Omega-3 fatty acids have anti-inflammatory properties that may benefit individuals with autoimmune conditions by reducing inflammation in the body.
🦠 Probiotics: Supporting gut health is important for managing autoimmune conditions, as the gut plays a significant role in immune function. Probiotic supplements can help maintain a healthy balance of gut bacteria and support immune health.
💛 Curcumin: Derived from the turmeric plant, curcumin has powerful anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties that may help alleviate symptoms of autoimmune conditions.
🌟 Vitamin B12: Some autoimmune conditions, such as pernicious anemia, can lead to vitamin B12 deficiency. Supplementing with vitamin B12 can help prevent deficiency and support overall health.
🤍 Magnesium: Magnesium plays a role in hundreds of biochemical reactions in the body, including immune function and inflammation. Supplementing can help reduce inflammation and support immune health.

When my daughter is constipated, here are the four things I do in this order…Spoiler alert: It’s never miralax

#1 I check her spine for tension, focusing specifically on her lumbar and sacral spine and I adjust what I find

#2 I think about the food she’s been eating and cut all constipating foods, replacing them with fiber rich foods

#3 I increase her water intake. If it takes using a no sugar added electrolyte mix to get her to drink more, I absolutely do that. The added fiber will make things worse if they’re not hydrating with the added fiber.

#4 I get her moving, Walking is great. If she’ll let me (ugh toddlers, am I right?), I’ll massage her belly and move her legs.

Hi! 👋 I’m Dr. Janine Hauser, DC, FMACP. I’m a licensed chiropractor and certified Functional Medicine practitioner in Kansas. I’m passionate about women’s health, specifically preconception, fertility, perimenopause/menopause. But I work with the WHOLE Family including kids with gut and/or skin issues, as well as men with health issues.

💕For preconception, we will work specifically on improving your fertility outcomes to get and stay pregnant, as well as have a healthy pregnancy and postpartum. This may look like balancing hormones, improving your gut function and microbiome, and improving egg quality. But we will look at the whole picture and if there are other areas to focus on, we will do that too.

💜Often in perimenopause/menopause we will also be balancing hormones. But we may have other focus areas at this time such as HPA Axis function (Adrenal Fatigue) or thyroid conditions. If necessary we can supplement with natural hormones, or I can work with your prescribing HRT provider.

⭐️Want more energy, a slimmer waist, or less anxiety? I help people with this too. Functional Medicine looks at the whole person, and we have many Functional Labs we can run to aid in finding the root cause of problems. I can also look at labs run by other healthcare providers to see if there’s something they missed.

If you feel lost or like you need more help, that’s what I do! ✅

Running on empty, taking on more than you can handle and worrying about too much can cause a host of problems in the body, especially the gut. One significant sign of stress negatively impacting gut health is leaky gut syndrome, where the lining of the intestine becomes more permeable than normal.

Essentially, this means that the barrier between the gut and bloodstream becomes compromised, allowing substances like toxins and undigested food particles to pass through. This can contribute to many unwanted symptoms and inflammation throughout the body.

Additionally, stress can influence the gut-brain axis, a communication network linking the gut and brain. This relationship plays a crucial role in regulating various bodily functions, including intestinal permeability.

While stress isn’t the sole cause of leaky gut, it can worsen existing gastrointestinal issues by compromising the intestinal barrier.

If you live a high stress lifestyle and you think it’s starting to impact your health I am here to help! With functional lab testing and tailored protocols, I can help you get your health and gut back into balance!
