Gestational diabetes is a form of diabetes that develops during pregnancy. An analysis of nine high-quality cohort studies involving more than 4 million women found that gestational diabetes was associated with increased risks of acute heart failure (74%), myocardial infarction (63%), and ischemic stroke (70%), highlighting its potential long-term impact on cardiovascular health.

Musculoskeletal Disorders Common in Office Workers.

Questionnaires completed by 99 office workers revealed that 80 reported musculoskeletal pain, most commonly in the neck, lower back, and shoulders. Further analysis identified poor workstation ergonomics and higher levels of job stress as risk factors for work-related musculoskeletal disorders.

Metabolic syndrome is a cluster of conditions—including central obesity, high blood pressure, abnormal cholesterol levels, and elevated blood sugar—that occur together and increase the risk of heart disease, stroke, and type 2 diabetes. A study that included 15,959 middle-aged and older adults found that skipping breakfast four or more times a week increased the odds for developing metabolic syndrome by 25%.

Healthier Lifestyle May Reduce Stroke Risk.

A recent study found that older adults who adopted a healthier lifestyle—which may include behaviors like a healthier diet, exercise, reduced sedentary time, not smoking, managing stress, and avoiding excessive alcohol consumption—had a 23% lower risk of stroke over the following seven years when compared with participants who maintained their baseline lifestyle. Conversely, study participants who transitioned to a less healthy lifestyle during this time frame experienced a 41% high risk of stroke.
