Happy Red Friday from HPC!

We are pumped to cheer on our Kansas City Chiefs as they face off against the Los Angeles Chargers tonight—all the way from Brazil! Let's go Chiefs!

We also want to send a huge thank you to the Pilot Club of Shawnee Mission and the Anchor Club of Shawnee Mission for the generous donation of 12 cozy handmade blankets. These thoughtful gifts will bring warmth and comfort to our pediatric patients and will be distributed at our Olathe clinic.

Yesterday was a busy day at HPC! Following our Open House, we had the opportunity to welcome two busloads of Garmin employees, who visited our Olathe clinic to learn more about our services.

This event was made possible by our partnership with United Way of Greater Kansas City. We are very grateful for their continued support in helping us reach the community and share our story.

HPC celebrated Community Care Clinic Month Stakeholder Appreciation Day with an Open House this morning, welcoming community members, business leaders, government officials and residents.

Senior Leadership guided guests on tours of our Olathe clinic, offering a closer look at our mission and the comprehensive services we provide across all sites. HPC was also presented with a Proclamation from the Governor by our partners at Community Care Network of Kansas.

The event also served as a special occasion to introduce and welcome our new Chief Health Officer, Dr. Tiffany Swanson. We are excited to have her leadership and expertise on board.

Much appreciation to our partners at UnitedHealthcare Community Plan and Healthy Blue Kansas for their generous support and contributions which helped make Community Care Clinic Month a meaningful celebration.

HPC was thrilled to welcome representatives from NASCAR, Kansas Speedway and AdventHealth for a Speedy Bear Brigade event yesterday at our Olathe clinic.

Forty Speedy Bears were delivered for our patients and children from KidsTLC, one of our community partners, who joined us for the event. Each bear was accompanied by an activity book, crayons, inspirational cards, a Jenga game, race car stress reliever, and a Rubik’s cube. The additional bears will be delivered to our clinic sites.

The excitement didn’t stop there! The kids also joined a Zoom call with NASCAR driver Erik Jones, where they asked questions and got a behind-the-scenes look at life on the track. Afterwards, they had the opportunity to see a NASCAR pace car up close. A check was also presented to the AdventHealth Foundation.

A heartfelt thank-you to Kate Buenger (AdventHealth) and Brooke Shuman (NASCAR) for their incredible coordination, Doug Spear (AdventHealth), Pat Warren (Track President, Kansas Speedway), Darren Odum (HPC Board Chair) and our HPC Senior Leaders, Amy Falk (CEO), Catherine Rice (VP of Marketing and Outreach) and Tiffany Swanson, DO (CHO), for making this special day possible.

Back-to-School Tip #4: Support Good Homework & Study Habits

Each week in August, HPC is sharing helpful back-to-school tips to support families as they get ready for a successful school year. This week, we're focusing on how to build strong homework and study routines at home.

Set the stage for success:
✅ Create a homework-friendly environment—quiet, consistent and free from distractions
✅ Use checklists, timers, or parental check-ins to keep students organized and focused
✅ Schedule enough time for homework and factor it in when planning after-school activities
✅ Turn off the TV and limit other electronics during study time; supervise computer, phone and internet use
✅ Encourage short breaks to prevent eye, neck and brain fatigue
✅ If your child is struggling in a subject, talk to their teacher—they may have helpful strategies or resources
✅ If you think your child may need extra support, ask the school about an Individualized Education Program (IEP) evaluation—your medical provider can often help with a written request

With the right tools and support, students can build habits that lead to academic success and less stress at home.

HPC provides quality, affordable and accessible medical, dental and behavioral health care to children. To make an appointment, call 913-648-2266.
