A Great Read

For anyone beginning or in the middle of the dementia journey with a loved one, The 36-Hour Day is a book packed with information and ideas to help ease the challenges of being a caregiver. Check out the audio on Libby or pick it up at Amazon.

One thought from the book that stands out is that moments of joy can still be found even in the darkest times of the journey. The authors mention a simple song that describes perfectly how this can look in life: Joy Is Like The Rain

Take a listen and take hold of joy.

Had a great neighborhood meeting last night at the Pioneer Trail Middle School Library-- although only 3 neighbors showed up. That allowed for some good conversation and interaction, though.

Thanks to our civil engineer, Mark Huggins with Payne & Brockway way for showing up and addressing drainage issues, the main concern of our neighbors.

And thanks to our neighbors for your input.

Thanks to Isabelle Guarino and the RAL Academy for hosting a great 2025 Assisted Living Conference in Phoenix this past weekend!

Great to meet so many folks with big hearts who are either operating RAL homes like Gina & Chris Sullivan in Ga, Julie Richards in Mi, and Mark Hutton & Janet Meyers Davies in Oh, or in the process of opening up a home like Heather Holmes and Collin Roberts at The Vibe in Nebraska.

35 Certified Mail Receipts at $6.08 a pop!

The City of Olathe requires us to contact every property owner within 200 feet and let them know about our request to rezone the lot, and also invite every owner within 500 feet to a neighborhood meeting. 35 rezoning notices and 104 invites mailed to the neighbors yesterday, along with a few drawings.

We're already zoned C-O (Office) so I'm not too worried about changing to C-1. Actually looking forward to letting the neighborhood know what's coming soon.

Just about ready to submit the re-zoning application tomorrow. Our architect has been making great progress!

Since the property has residential homes on 2 sides, the landscape architect says the city of Olathe requires us to have a minimum of 580 total trees and plants for both buildings. I assume only half of that will be required for the first building, but 290 is still a lot of plants!
It's been fun, though, to design a landscape that the grandmas and grandpas can enjoy all year long --- colorful trees in the fall, evergreen spruce trees so it's beautiful in the snow, fruit trees for a bit of fresh fruit...
