I vividly remember taking a public speaking class at community college in 2001 and shaking the entire time. Like, not just when I was speaking in front of the class. Although that was horrible. But even when I was simply sitting in class and anticipating speaking in front of people. My face would get flushed and my heart would race and I just wanted to go home and watch Gilmore Girls, or some other comfort show to get me out of this heightened state.
But something changed over time.
I can’t say when or exactly how but, as it turns out, in the year of our Lord 2026, speaking is one of my favorites things to do. It’s energizing. It’s meaningful. And witnessing my words have an impact on the lives of others is truly indescribable.
Last year, after I spoke at a conference, someone said that I was “a gifted speaker.” It gave me pause. What does it mean to be a “gifted speaker?” It means this ability God has given me is a GIFT. Not something I’ve done on my own, in my own strength and ability. Yes, I have worked hard to hone this skill. But God gave me something to use to bless others and I’m committed to seeing it through.
I have several speaking engagements booked for the first few months of the year and I’m looking forward to booking into the late spring, summer, and fall.
