OSHA ALERT: Big news in respiratory protection.

OSHA has proposed changes to the Respiratory Protection Standard (29 CFR 1910.134) that would eliminate mandatory medical evaluations for workers using:
• Filtering Facepiece Respirators (FFRs) like N95s
• Loose-fitting Powered Air-Purifying Respirators (PAPRs)

Why? OSHA’s data shows no measurable benefit to mandatory medical clearance for these types, even after widespread use during COVID-19.
But here’s what’s NOT changing - and where JLN Safety steps in:

We have been following the developing situation in Wilmington, CA, where Los Angeles County firefighters responded to a tunnel collapse at an industrial site.

From one rescue team to another: we commend their swift deployment of confined space protocols and technical rescue resources.

We’re relieved to hear that all 30+ construction workers have been safely rescued. From 400 feet underground and 6 miles in, these individuals made an incredible climb back to safety. We commend the swift action and technical precision of the Los Angeles County Fire Department and all responding teams.

WORK HARD. PLAY SAFE. APPRECIATE ALWAYS.

This past weekend, the JLN Safety crew (and families!) swapped hard hats for sun hats and gathered for a day of food, fun, and friendly competition at Cave Hill Resort.

Our fearless chief made sure no one went hungry - bringing in jumbo-sized favorites to fuel the day. And don’t worry… there was plenty of PPE (Potatoes, Pasta Salad, and Everything Edible). From co****le battles to golf swings and mountain rope climbs up to the infamous cave, we proved that whether it’s on the job site or on the lake… teamwork, balance, and a little creative problem-solving always come in handy.

A huge thank-you to everyone who joined us and made this appreciation day one to remember. At JLN Associates and Top Rung Inspection & Testing, we don’t just work hard - we play safely, recharge well, and climb new heights (literally and figuratively). And a special shoutout to the families who support our team behind the scenes - especially during the long hours of our busiest seasons. We couldn’t do it without you.

With the continuation of this intense heat wave, we are urging all teams and employers to take heat exposure seriously. Prolonged work in high temperatures can lead to dehydration, heat exhaustion, or even heat stroke - fast.

Signs to Watch For:
• Heavy sweating
• Dizziness or fainting
• Headache or nausea
• Rapid pulse

What You Can Do:
• Provide cool, shaded rest areas
• Schedule work for cooler hours
• Hydrate every 15–20 minutes - DON'T WAIT UNTIL YOU'RE THIRSTY
• Train your crew to recognize and respond to heat illness
