Student Osteopathic Medical Association (SOMA), in collaboration with Healthcare Alliance for Social Change (HASC) and Medical Students For Choice (MSFC), will be hosting a research-based interactive discussion: Patient Care Post-Roe, about the effects of denying abortion care to patients and how the recent overturn of Roe v. Wade has been affecting and could continue to affect patient care.
We will be featuring University of California San Francisco (UCSF) professor and director of Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health (ANSIRH) Dr. Daniel Grossman. Dr. Grossman is an OB/GYN that has worked with demographer Dr. Diana Greene Foster on the famous "Turnaway Study", a prospective longitudinal study on the effects of denying abortions to women in the US that began in 2008. The study found that women who were forced to carry out their pregnancies were more likely to be below the poverty line, develop poor mental and physical health, and stay in abusive relationships.
The event will be held in person in Mollie Auditorium on Monday November 14, 2022 at 12:00pm - 1:00pm ET. A zoom option will be available to those who are unable to attend in person, but we encourage you to come if you can! There will be free food and MSFC will be raffling off a hydro flask! ๐
