Walk-ins welcome!

Olean General Hospital will host a community blood drive beginning at 8 a.m. Thursday in partnership with ConnectLife, the region’s community blood bank.

The blood drive will run through 1 p.m. on the ConnectLife Bus at the Mildred Milliman Outpatient Surgery Center, across from the hospital on Main Street. Anyone who would like to schedule an appointment can visit connectlifegiveblood.org and use sponsor code 000485, or call (716) 529-4270.

A single pint of donated blood can save up to three lives in our local community. Throughout April, all donors will receive a Buffalo Sabres t-shirt. Donations collected at the ConnectLife blood drive at OGH on Feb. 12 helped save 66 local lives, the organization reported.

The ConnectLife Bus will be parked across from Olean General Hospital on Thursday, April 9 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. for a community blood drive.

Cancer Care Close to Home: From patient to purpose

After her own cancer journey at the Mildred Milliman Radiation Medicine Center, Eileen “Birdie” Skrobacz is giving back in a meaningful way through her new “Robes for Comfort” program at the same place she received her radiation treatments in Olean.

What started as a small change during her treatment—wearing her own robe—has grown into an initiative that helps patients feel comfort, dignity and confidence during radiation therapy.

As Olean General Hospital continues work to reopen its updated radiation center with a new state-of-the-art linear accelerator, stories like Birdie’s remind us of the power of compassionate, local care.
