🚨 Flu A Is Here 🚨
We’ve already seen several patients in the office this morning testing positive for Influenza A, and cases are definitely circulating in our community.
What to know about Flu A:
🤒 Common symptoms:
• Sudden fever & chills
• Body aches
• Headache
• Fatigue
• Cough, sore throat, congestion
• Sometimes nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea (more common in kids)
How long are you contagious?
➡️ You’re typically contagious 1 day before symptoms start and up to 5–7 days after, sometimes longer in children or those with weakened immune systems.
Treatment options:
✔️ Rest and fluids
✔️ Fever reducers (Tylenol/ibuprofen as appropriate)
✔️ Antiviral medications (like Tamiflu) can help shorten illness if started within the first 48 hours
✔️ Supportive care to manage symptoms and prevent complications
🚫 Why antibiotics don’t work:
Antibiotics treat bacterial infections, and the flu is caused by a virus. Taking antibiotics when they aren’t needed won’t help you feel better and can contribute to antibiotic resistance.
