Private sessions are like improv.
I 100% always have a plan. But, I also have a LOT of tools in my toolbox if we need to pivot. And most of the time, we need to pivot.
Last week alone:
1) A yoga student came to her session with an arthritis flare up in her knee. Instead of the active yoga I had planned, we did a lot of myofascial release along with slower, gentler movements
2) A personal training student wanted to explore some nagging hip pain that she's been having. We did a double session and spent the first hour really digging into different assessments and self massage before doing the training session.
3) A personal training student knew she would have a *rough* day after our 6:30am sesh, so we shifted to a gentle / restorative yoga session with an empowering theme.
4) A yoga student was unable to come to the studio due to debilitating hip pain. She knows what the problem is (and the solution is an imminent hip replacement), so we moved the session to online AND worked to find movements that help her feel better in her body to keep her mobile before her surgery.
5) A yoga student who is planning a 4 week vacation in the Caribbean (not jealy at all) asked to continue her weekly sessions online. We figured out the time difference, and the adjustments needed for Daylight Savings Time to get her scheduled. She knows what props to pack and she is all set!
The beauty of working with someone who can teach yoga AND personal training, is that it is SO easy to shift. Plus I have a plethora of (non-conventional) tricks up my sleeve 🙃
