When a baby stops breathing, there’s no time for a quick refresher on proper CPR technique. It’s a skill you must have down. That’s why staff at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital undergo regular neonatal CPR training. And now, they have a brand-new training tool, thanks to a grant from the hospital’s Greatest Needs Fund. The infant CPR manikin offers several new features, including enhanced compression and ventilation measurements, and a sensor to ensure correct hand placement. We love when philanthropy enhances world-class healthcare.

As we continue to celebrating Nursing Week, May 6-12, we next highlight our Emergency Department nursing staff and our dedicated nurse navigator.

When faced with life and death, who would you want standing by your side? Who would you want advocating for you, monitoring your symptoms, holding your hand and reassuring you, explaining to your family members what’s happening, communicating your needs to your physician, and keeping up with all aspects of your care? The nurses at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital Emergency Department do all of this and more!

Our nurses hold certifications in various areas, including, emergency communications, trauma, pediatrics, advanced cardiac and pediatric life support, disaster preparedness, crisis intervention, stroke care, and neonatal resuscitation. We are here 24/7 to care for you and be your voice or your ear. Our nursing staff are constantly learning new things and expanding their knowledge to provide the very best care in your time of need. When you need the best, call on us.

Special mention to Tiffany Nix, who is Radiology's RN Navigator. She steers patients through the breast diagnostic evaluation process and provides supportive care throughout the continuum of breast cancer treatment and survivorship as a single point of contact for the patients. She assesses breast cancer patients' individual needs and identifies barriers to cancer care and works to eliminate them. She also serves the community by providing education on preventative care and screening exams. In addition, she assists with biopsy procedures and with imaging when an RN is needed for such as exams that require medications, central venous access or patient monitoring. She serves as an excellent pillar of support throughout the process, from start to finish.

Happy Nurses Week to an incredible Med-Surg and ICU team!

This team cares for up to 15 medical inpatients and 9 observation patients, along with up to 6 ICU inpatients and 2 observation—delivering high-quality care every day as a Critical Access Hospital.

From pediatrics all the way to geriatrics, their expertise spans general surgery, podiatry and wound care, urology, and cardiology (without surgical intervention). They also care for patients in the swing bed therapy program, guiding them through recovery and rehabilitation on their journey back home.

No matter the diagnosis, age, or level of care, they show up with compassion, precision, and unwavering dedication.

Med-Surg nurses are the backbone—balancing complex patient needs with resilience and grace.
ICU nurses are the calm in the chaos—providing critical, life-saving care when it matters most.

Case Management is the bridge—coordinating care, advocating for patients, navigating resources, and ensuring safe, smooth transitions from hospital to home or the next level of care.

Together, they make a powerful impact on patients and families alike. Their teamwork, skill, and commitment truly define excellence in healthcare.

They are appreciated more than words can say—this week and always.

We are continuing to celebrate Nursing Week, May 6-12, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital.

Today, we take a moment to celebrate our nursing team members in Carle Richland Physician Practices.

Physician Practices combines Ambulatory Specialty and Primary clinics to provide multifaceted and balanced care for the members of our community. In total, these dedicated caring individuals keep 9 specialty clinics and 3 primary care clinics operating efficiently. The cohesion of this group ensures that they provide the best care possible for their patients across all fields of service. The time and attention that they give to their jobs to ensure that the needs of the members of our community are met do not go unnoticed. They tirelessly advocate not only for their patients, but their providers and each other. It is with tremendous pride that we share with you who these caregivers are and thank them for all that they do.

Although we are grateful for our amazing group of nurses every day, Nursing Week always gives us an extra opportunity to share with our community how wonderful we think they are.

Carle Richland to begin new building project, expansion to Emergency Department

Later this summer, Carle Richland will break ground on a $45 million specialty medical office building and Emergency Department expansion. The two-story medical office building will be added to the southwest corner of the CRMH campus and will be attached to the current hospital. Completion of the new build is expected to be Fall of 2027.

Once the build is completed, work will begin on an expansion to the Emergency Department. Those renovations are slated to be done by Summer 2028.

“This is an exciting time for Richland and surrounding communities. This build will allow for much growth and access to services into the future,” Gina Thomas, CRMH president, said.

Join us this week as we celebrate Nursing Week, May 6-12, at Carle Richland Memorial Hospital. We will take this opportunity to highlight our various nursing departments and their roles in ensuring our patients have the best care possible.

As we celebrate Nurses Week, we want to take a moment to shine a light on the exceptional opportunities within Surgical Services. Our nurses have the chance to work across a variety of specialized areas, including the GI Lab, Operating Room, PACU, and Same Day Surgery. Each team consistently demonstrates excellence in patient care, and it’s wonderful to see their efforts frequently recognized in patient feedback.

What makes Surgical Services truly special is the way these service lines collaborate to ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients. This teamwork not only improves the patient experience, but also highlights the dedication and skill that each nurse brings to their role.

Thanks to these nurses for your commitment and for making a difference every day. Happy Nurses Week!
