When the weather keeps your family inside, it’s the perfect time to build connections in simple ways!

Try reading together under a warm blanket, cooking or baking a new recipe, creating an indoor scavenger hunt, snuggling up on the couch with a warm cup of hot chocolate or enjoying a favorite board game.

These small moments feel cozy but also build skills like communication, problem-solving, and patience!

What’s your favorite cold-weather family activity?

Winter blues?

Shorter winter days can affect kids’ (and adults’) mood and energy levels, and a little grumpiness or lower motivation this time of year is normal. But parents should watch for red flags like withdrawal, sudden school struggles, big changes in sleep or appetite, or any mention of hopelessness.

If something feels “off,” trust your instincts!

We’re here to help support your child’s emotional health. Call us at 360-456-1600 to speak to one of our nurses or schedule an appointment if you're worried about your child's mood!

With winter break coming to an end, it's a great time to remind your college student that eating well and staying healthy in doesn’t have to drain their bank account!

Encourage your student to plan simple meals, shop store brands, and stock affordable essentials like rice, beans, eggs, frozen vegetables, and peanut butter.

Choosing water over sugary drinks, getting adequate sleep, and incorporating free workouts like campus rec center classes, walking groups, YouTube fitness videos, or intramural sports can make a big difference. Remind them that healthy routines don’t need to be perfect; small, consistent habits add up and support long-term wellness.

If your college student needs guidance on nutrition, stress, sleep, or general wellness, our team is always here to help.

If your teen’s thumb scrolls faster than your morning coffee pours, it might be time for a social media reset!

While smartphones and social apps are part of modern life, too much time online can interfere with sleep, schoolwork, friendships, and mental health. Experts recommend creating clear limits for screen time, such as turning off devices during homework, setting “no phone” windows before bed, and designating phone-free zones like the dinner table or bedroom!

For younger children, the AAP suggests limiting non-school screen use, but for teens, it’s about establishing balanced digital habits and ensuring screens don’t replace sleep, activity, and face-to-face time.

Not sure if your teens' social media or screen habits are appropriate? Worried about their screen time or online behavior? Call our office today at 360-456-1600 to schedule an appointment with one of our providers.

Do you know how many hours per day your toddler should be sleeping?
Toddlers typically need about 11–14 hours of sleep per 24 hours, including naps! Most children between 1 and 2 years take 1–2 naps per day, while 3-year-olds often transition to a single nap or may skip naps entirely.
Consistent sleep routines help toddlers feel secure and well-rested! Establish a regular bedtime, calming pre-sleep activities, and a predictable nighttime routine.

Keep your toddler in their own sleep environment to encourage independent sleep, and if transitioning from a crib to a big kid bed, offer comfort items, use positive reinforcement, and allow time to adjust gradually.

Limit screen time before bed, keep the room dark and quiet, and offer a favorite stuffed animal for comfort.

Consistency is key for better sleep and overall mood, and well rested toddlers = happy parents!

Call our office if your toddler struggles with sleep. Our team can provide personalized strategies that work for your family in order to help your child rest better!

Toy safety is important to prevent choking, injury, or exposure to harmful materials! Check age recommendations, avoid small parts for young children, ensure toys are free of sharp edges, and supervise play. Batteries and magnets can be dangerous if swallowed, so always follow manufacturer instructions.

Dr. Morales' favorite toy from her childhood was a cabbage patch kid!

What was your favorite toy as a child? Are there any toys your kiddos are hoping to receive this holiday season? Tell us in the comments!

Have questions about a toy or need guidance for safe gift choices? Call our office - we’re happy to help!

Changes in routine like altered sleep schedules or meal times can increase stress and lead to crankiness or behavior changes.

Planning ahead by packing snacks, entertainment, and comfort items can help your holiday trip go smoothly. Maintain regular sleep routines as much as possible, and allow extra time for stops or delays. You can also bring along coloring books, puzzles, storybooks, or small travel games to keep kids engaged without screens during the trip!

Wherever you travel this holiday, our phone nurses are a just call or portal message away if you need advice on travel safety, motion sickness, or managing health needs while on the go!

Children in grade school may start noticing early body changes such as growth spurts, changes in body shape, or the beginnings of puberty!

For girls, puberty typically starts between 8–13 years, often beginning with breast development, followed by p***c hair and a growth spurt. For boys, puberty usually starts between 9–14 years, often beginning with testicular enlargement, followed by p***c hair and a growth spurt.

These changes can start at different ages for each child!

Open conversations about their body, privacy, and healthy habits help children feel comfortable and confident.

Well visits are a great time for your provider to assess puberty changes and give guidance on what to expect and when! Call today to schedule an appointment.

Ear infections are common in school-age children, but not all ear infections are the same.

1) Otitis media (middle ear infection): This occurs behind the eardrum, often following a cold or upper respiratory infection. Symptoms can include ear pain, fever, irritability, or trouble hearing. Some cases improve on their own, but antibiotics may be needed if symptoms are severe or persistent.

2) Otitis externa (outer ear infection or “swimmer’s ear”): This affects the ear canal, often after swimming or water exposure. Symptoms include ear pain when the ear is touched, redness, itching, and sometimes discharge. Treatment typically involves ear drops rather than oral antibiotics.

Understanding the type of infection helps guide proper treatment and prevent complications!

Call our office if your child shows signs of an ear infection so we can help make sure they receive the right care!
