Important Advocacy Update: Premera Reimbursement Policy Change. ACTION NEEDED

APTA Washington is actively addressing a recent Premera reimbursement policy change that significantly impacts physical therapy providers, practice owners, and patient access to care.

What changed:
Premera transitioned from the AMA rule to the Medicare 8-minute rule effective 11/4/25, resulting in reduced reimbursement for providers.

What APTA Washington is doing:
• Engaging directly with Premera leadership
• Partnering with APTA’s Senior Payment Specialist
• Providing members with tools to submit complaints to the WA Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC)

What we need from you — act by 12/31/25:
✔ Submit a complaint to the OIC
✔ Send a letter to Premera
✔ Talk with your patients about how this change affects access to care

You can find the information on www.APTAWA.org

PTs & PTAs: Your mentorship can change a life!

APTA Washington is partnering with Tufts University’s SPARCC-PT program to support high school students from underrepresented minority groups in the Seattle area—providing early exposure to the field of physical therapy and the many career pathways within it.

We’re looking for PTs and PTAs to:
✨ Mentor students (1 meeting/month)
✨ Virtual presentation at webinars in February or April
✨ Host students for clinic observations across a variety of settings (OP, IP, SNF, Rehab, etc.)
If you’re passionate about shaping the next generation of clinicians, we’d love to have you involved!
