Congratulations on your DAISY Award, Jacob!

Jacob, an Acute Care RN in the surgical unit, was nominated by a fellow caregiver who said, "Jacob is always kind and supportive. He constantly goes above and beyond for his patients and co-workers. He is a great team member... Jacob has shown what an amazing RN he is through his patient care and teamwork."

The DAISY Award is an international recognition program that honors the skillful and compassionate care nurses provide daily. The DAISY Foundation was established in 2000 by the family of a patient who died from complications of an auto-immune disease. During his hospitalization, they appreciated the care and compassion shown and wanted to thank nurses in a very public way.

🩺 Surgical Scrub Tech Anastasiya moved to the U.S. from Ukraine eight years ago and joined Providence in Portland nearly three years ago. Anastasiya says Providence—and the sense of belonging she’s felt working here—helped her move from being shy and uncertain to confident in herself and career. “I applied for a job, and I found a family,” she says. 💙💚

Anastasiya says she felt welcomed immediately—but didn’t expect the type of support she received when she faced a family situation early in her employment. Says Anastasiya, “My daughter was sick, and I was about to quit. I gave my two weeks’ notice to my manager, and he called me and asked why. I explained, and he said, ‘We are going to keep your position. Spend some time with your daughter. Just take some time, don’t quit.’ And honestly, I could not believe it. I took some time off, I came back, and they offered me a different shift that works better. I was in awe. And that’s what helped me understand how important it is to have this community.”

Anastasiya’s story is a testament to the power of support and teamwork in overcoming life’s challenges. 💪🏼

For many, life’s most challenging moments become the catalyst for change and growth. ✨

This was the case for Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Ekaterina, who made a major life change after surviving cancer. It was the care she received that drew her to health care. 🎗️

When she was finished with her treatment, Ekaterina completed CNA training and found a position with Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson, Mont., where she quickly felt at home.

Ekaterina says she finds that meaning and purpose she was looking for every day at work when she gets to help patients through hard times of their own.

“People are afraid, frustrated and they don’t understand what’s happening to them,” she says. “A lot of times the family may not be here and they’re alone. For me, the biggest reward at the end of the day is being able to say, ‘I held his hand or her hand. I looked in their eyes and told them everything will be okay.’” 💙 💚

Because Ekaterina believes that remaining upbeat during trying times is half the battle, she always tries to stay upbeat for the patients.

“You’re there for that emotional support. You say, ‘You can do it. We can do it.’ All of us are scared in moments like that. Helping them through gives me a purpose to my life and I think I’m absolutely lucky to be where I am.”

Tress was unemployed, but looking for work, and relied on Medicaid to help her with diabetes treatment. She is now employed and no longer relies on Medicaid.
