Last weekend, South Bay crews responded to a commercial structure fire with flames showing. At the same time, another commercial fire was happening in Olympia, so both South Bay Engine’s 81 and 83 responded to assist Lacey Fire District Three

Engine 81 was assigned primary search, checking for anyone inside the building. Engine 83 arrived shortly after and completed the secondary search. Lacey Fire District 3 Engine 34 did an outstanding job knocking down the fire quickly and keeping it contained to the involved apartment.

We are proud to work alongside our neighboring departments across the county. Teamwork like this helps keep our community safe, and we are always happy to be of service.

Last week, South Bay crews responded to a residential structure fire with our partners at Lacey Fire District 3. South Bay’s Engine 81 arrived on scene and supplied Lacey Fire’s Engine 35 with a water source. They were then assigned extension (making sure the fire doesn’t spread to other areas) and exterior extinguishment (extinguishing flames on the outside of the house) to ensure the fire wasn’t spreading. Engine 35 made a strong push on the ground floor, got the fire under control, and saved the structure. This was also our new engine’s first structure fire!

Always appreciate working alongside Lacey Fire. Solid crew and great coordination on this one.

Sometimes the reason behind all the training walks right through the station doors! ❤️

Today we had two very special visitors. Now living in Florida, they came home to surprise their grandma and to say hello to the crews who helped save their lives.

Back on July 4, 2019, these siblings were involved in a life-threatening accident. Bystanders, South Bay Fire, Lacey Fire, Olympia Fire, Providence St. Peter Hospital staff, Airlift Northwest, Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital, and many more came together to make sure they survived. It was a call our firefighters will never forget.

Today, they walked into the station smiling, healthy, and thriving!

Moments like this remind us that training isn’t just practice, it’s preparing for the moments that matter most, when real lives are on the line.

We’re so grateful to the bystanders, first responders, and medical teams who made this possible. And to this family, thank you for stopping by ❤️ Visits like this mean more than words can express!

Thank you for trusting us to be there when it matters.

❤️

Reminder!

South Bay community, the day is finally here! We invite you to join us in welcoming Engine 81 during our traditional push in ceremony! The ceremony will be held at Station 81 on March 10th from 5:00 to 5:30 PM.

This tradition dates back to the days of horse-drawn fire engines, when firefighters would physically push the apparatus back into the station after a call because the horses could not back it in. Today, the push in ceremony honors that history and symbolizes placing the new engine into service for our community.

We hope you will come out, spend a little time with us, and take part in this meaningful tradition! Please stay afterward for a slice of cake and a chance to visit. We look forward to seeing you there!

Six of our firefighters took on the Seattle Firefighter Stairclimb today, climbing 69 floors in full gear alongside firefighters from around the world. Shoutout to LT. Zvirsdyz, Lt. Chiatovich, FF Grimaldo, FF Christian, FF Benson, and FF Yenne!!

This event raises money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, helping fund research, patient support, and treatment for people battling blood cancers like leukemia and lymphoma. Every step up those stairs represents support for families facing a tough fight.

Our crew was proud to be part of it and to help add to the funds raised for this important cause. Strong work by all six firefighters who stepped up and represented our department today.

Last week, crews responded to a home where an outlet short-circuited and caused an electrical fire, filling the house with smoke.

The homeowners were alerted by their smoke alarms and were able to safely evacuate. Luckily, with the quick actions of the homeowners and the response from your firefighters, the damage was minimal.

Electrical outlets can short-circuit for a number of reasons — loose wiring, aging outlets, overloaded circuits, or damaged cords and chargers. Sometimes there are warning signs like outlets that feel warm, a burning or plastic smell, buzzing sounds, or discoloration around the outlet.

A great reminder of why it’s so important to have working smoke alarms in your home.

We often use Daylight Saving Time as a reminder to check them… but this photo works as a pretty good reminder too. Take a minute today to test yours and make sure they’re working!

And a big thank you to the homeowners for having working smoke alarms and getting out safely!

Well doggon’, did the crews at South Bay Fire have their hands full the other night. Boone, a 14-year-old black Lab, took a tumble down a 60-foot ravine and wasn’t able to get himself back up. Thankfully, Boone’s mom called 911, and we were able to stay with him safely until we got an extra set of hands from District 3’s truck crew. They quickly assembled a rope system and got Boone up to safety.

The crew said he went from cold and scared to completely forgetting he was stuck, feeling nothing but happiness at the top. So thankful to reunite this ol’ boy with his owner and happy to be there for the community and their family pets.

Always a pleasure working with Lacey Fire District Three, thank you for your assistance!

A big thank you to Mrs. Hooper’s class for the incredible cards, kind messages, and awesome artwork following our visit to Boston Harbor School! We shared them with the entire crew, and they definitely brought a lot of smiles around the station. We appreciate you thinking of us!

Last week’s visit to Boston Harbor Elementary was a reminder of why we love serving this community. The students asked amazing questions and were all ears during fire safety and firefighter familiarization. We always enjoy connecting with our youngest community! Thank you for having us!
