Wildwood Building

Wildwood Building Built in 1938 and designed by Joseph Wohleb, the Wildwood Building was Olympia's first shopping center, known as the "Wildwood Shopping Center."

The building is an Art Moderne/Deco style and features a trapezoidal shape and rounded corners. It was built at Capitol Boulevard and O'Farrell at the edge of Wildwood Park and is located near four Olympia neighborhoods: South Capitol, Carlyon-North, Wildwood, and Governor Stevens. Originally, the structure had a flower shop, pharmacy, and grocery and was built for owner G.V. Valley, who wisely predicted the desire of families to shop within their own neighborhoods instead of downtown markets. The building is an early interpretation of the shopping center idea. Today, the building proudly holds Spud’s Produce Market, Olympia Coffee Roasting Company, Vic’s Pizzeria, and the Lunchbox Sandwich Shop.
