Every year from Oct. 15 – Dec. 7, Medicare gives you a chance to switch plans. And we all know that Medicare can be confusing!

Plans can change every year, so it’s important to review yours to make sure it still works for you.

Starting next year if you are on the Medicare original program supplement plan (such as G , F or N), there will now be 17 procedures that require prior authorization.

Medicare Advantage plans have always had prior authorization rules. Original Medicare has not. This change is part of experimenting to implement this further into original Medicare.

A doctor can authorize everything and that is why there are some gaps for fraud that can be accessed in original Medicare

The theory is it will slow down and stop fraud, waste and abuse.

But how much will original Medicare slow down with prior authorizations now will be the question. Check it out below.
