This statement came through in a session today with one of my clients who is in my Embody Your Brilliance year-long mentorship program.

𝗔𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗴𝗴𝗹𝗲?
I know we’ve been conditioned to strain and harden up as a way of making it in life…. I am not immune to it.

But Really, what is the point to all the striving!?
This constant focus on outward goals and achievements, measuring up to outward expectations, pushing ourselves to achieve what?
Burning the candle of our life force on both ends. Drying ourselves out. Giving it all up and giving ourselves away.

What a waste.

How frustrating to work so hard and not feel fulfilled!
And then keep working harder thinking we’ll actually reach that fulfillment -as if it’s just around the corner of pushing even harder!

The harder we strain the harder we get and the harder it is to access all the resources we have available for our thriving.
The resources within
That we are actually working so hard to get
But it’s not out there
It’s been here within us all the whole time

And we literally already have all that we need
We already ARE all the we’ve been striving to attain out there

All that you deeply desire is available to you,
Within

It is the path to all that you’ve ever wanted and MORE. It will blow your mind over and over and over.
This is the deeper longing and inkling and knowing you’ve always had.
Because it is your guidance and it is communicating with you, always!

𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙣𝙤𝙩 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩. 𝙄 𝙖𝙢 𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙡𝙮 𝙞𝙢𝙥𝙚𝙧𝙛𝙚𝙘𝙩.
Perfection is something I used to try to attain. I used to think I had to have it all figured out, all the time. I also used to look for people who were absolutely certain so that I could feel safe.

I was very focused and caught up in the immediate moment of what seemed to be a need to be vigilant with my awareness. And on top of it!!

Perfection was my attempt to create a degree of control after years of my needs not being met -needs that I wasn’t consciously aware of.

Sound familiar?

But the wisdom of my body and my instincts stepped in to help me through what I was not able to be consciously aware of, by creating coping strategies,
Brilliant!!
Life totally serving me!!!

And what’s clear now is that I was operating as well as my coping strategies would allow me. I could not see beyond my very basic unmet needs for safety.

Looking back I can see that it was this limited perspective, this tunnel vision on achieving safety, that was perpetuating the compulsive attempt to reach perfection.

And I was unable to go within to find the stability that would actually rescue me in the way I needed.

From my current vantage point, and the capacity I have developed over the last 15 years I am now able to share what I have learned with my clients…. The tools needed to address the protective defense mechanisms that limit our vision and keep our wings clipped and our 👣 footprints way too small.

In the process of mentorship we are able to uncover, access and activate their innate brilliance that has been safely protected by the variety of protective defense mechanisms.

This innate brilliance is the necessary ingredient to rocking our authentic leadership. 👑

It comes in authentic and unique forms for each woman:
The red dragon 🐉 of feminine power
The octopus 🐙 with infinite creative tentacles
The baby bird 🐦 that needs to be pet and reassured so she can fly.
The young girl hiding in the alcove in the kitchen for 53 years because it was not safe for her precious tenderness.

𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐧𝐞𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐟𝐢𝐭 𝐢𝐧….
𝐈 𝐰𝐚𝐬 𝐦𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐭𝐨 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐝! ✨

But …
Growing up, I was taught to follow
Taught to be a good girl
Conditioned out of My way

So I questioned My way
Because it didn’t match those around me
And I feared standing out and being ostracized

So I didn’t be me
And I tried to be like them

And pain followed
Because it was painful to not be me!

The pain came in all levels:

😣Physically through migraines, anxiety, physical tension, restricted breathing, clenching my teeth.

😰Emotionally through deep disappointment of others not able to show up in the way I desired to be met. I numbed out and tried my hand at being happy with what was offered.

😖Mentally I did gymnastics to fit in, to make people happy, and to try and solve everyone’s problems so maybe then they’d have more capacity to see me.

😥Spirituality had no validation in the people around me so there was no space to develop my own deep soul connection. My soul landscape felt desolate.

This nearly impossible adaptation continued all the way through to my 30’s when I finally decided it was time to allow my own self exploration.
To follow my inklings and curiosities. To allow my self discovery.
This was a bold move!
This took courage!
So I did it in secret at first…. but I gave myself the permission to be unique.

This began almost 15 years of a dynamic journey of healing and coming back home to my powerful presence and unique gifts and capacities,
that I now am grateful for, that I am in awe of, that I now celebrate and honor.

Because now I am living in the way I am meant to.
I mentor brilliant heart centered women to lead from their deepest heart’s desires … to heal and transform what stands in their own way of knowing and living their own gifts and talents.

And I know now, that even though I don’t fit in, I belong.

I am lit up to be at this point in my own soul’s journey and it feels so liberating!

Heather Ann Fink is a certified Life Transformation Coach who specializes in mentoring people who love deeply but struggle with repeating painful relationship patterns, to experience the joyful and nourishing intimacy and connections they desire.
