What a busy time of year it is, but no less important of a time for us to be vigilant about scams targeted at our seniors. In fact, it's probably twice as likely we should be looking out for scams targeted at our most vulnerable because criminals never take a day off! Scam artist and fraudsters love to take advantage of us during the holidays when we're extra busy and not so careful. I'd like to give an extremely heartfelt thank you to my friend and frequent guest speaker. David Shallcross who came to NEPA all the way from Harrisburg where he serves as the Director of the Senior protection Unit. frequent guest of HHCP and Hospice. Dave stays overnight and actually does typically four or five presentations in about a 30-hour period. The informative and ever eloquent speaker never seems to tire about talking about the multiple ways that seniors can protect themselves from crimes. From reminding us to never answer the telephone from someone we don't know, to never give out information in text, emails, or voice. Never to click on hyperlinks. Always resist giving out information, don't fall for the urgency in their request and remember nobody from your bank is going to call and ask you for your personal information. They already have it. Never let strangers in your house for any reason, even if they show you a badge if you don't see a vehicle outside marked appropriately for the utility company. Record license plates, make and model of any suspicious vehicles in your area. And if you become the victim of a scam please reach out and tell your family, the police and to the appropriate government agencies. Criminals gain strength through our silence. Here are some photos of the most recent presentations David and I did.
