Grand rising 🌅
Day Two of Kwanzaa: Kujichagulia (Self-Determination)
If Umoja is the root, Kujichagulia is the voice.
🕯️ Today, the first red candle is lit—
red for the struggle, yes…
but also for the fire it took to define ourselves anyway.
Kujichagulia means self-determination:
✨ to define ourselves
✨ to name ourselves
✨ to speak for ourselves
✨ to decide who we are—without asking permission
This principle is ancient, not trendy. Our ancestors knew that if you let someone else name you, they’ll also try to own you. So they taught us to stand tall and say:
“I know who I am.”
Today is about reclaiming your narrative.
Not shrinking. Not code-switching your soul.
Not letting systems, labels, or old wounds do the talking for you.
Tell it straight:
You are not what they survived you as.
You are who you choose to be now.
🔥 Kujichagulia affirmation:
“I define myself, I name myself, and I speak my truth with power and purpose.”
Walk today like your name carries weight—
because it does.
Joyous Kwanzaa, Day Two 🖤❤️💚
Say your name. Mean it.
