The air cools. The leaves colorfully show us what ecstatic surrender looks like. The veil thins between ordinary reality and the spirit world or the quantum wilderness. 🍂

That’s why we celebrate our ancestors and all things scary this season. Our identity and nervous systems gets spooked by the unseen. 👻

Besides the actual spirits that haunt us, all of us have a little ghost in us — while still alive. 👻

In my book and audiobook, How the Stars Tell Time I have a whole chapter dedicated to this aspect of our lives called Ghosts. (Audiobook part 2) A main theme of my cosmic love story is me meeting my young self across time to help her meet our ancestors and reclaim our personal ghosts. 👻

From acquaintances to significant others, our life is filled with relationships. Even a cloistered human has a relational classroom — the relationship to self is the biggest of all.

This beautiful human walking in front of me is my greatest teacher. When I said yes to merging both business and home with him — I said yes to a radical evolution of intimacy, and as a result, a much better self.

In the introduction to my book How the Stars Tell Time I write, “After two decades as an architect passionate to bring positive change, the insight for me was that we do not lack industriousness or inventiveness, we lack intimacy.”

And…

“The future is relational. To get from here to there, we have a lot of personal and collective intimacy muscle to build.”

We humans have to get much (so much) better at othering and belonging. We have to tackle the uncomfortable stretch of rupture, reckoning, and repair. In time, if we lean in (and out) far enough, if we do our own work, and if we’re blessed to magnetize a healthy dance of intimacy, we cultivate capacity. Day to day, ever so slowly, and with tons of practice — we normalize intimacy and learn to become love in any room.

We need to do this as a society, but first: it starts with self. Yet, it comes alive in intimacy with another. Then it awakens in community, then a nation.

This human walking before me is the beautiful one who decided to practice the dance of love with me. Every. Single. Day.

He f*cks it all up and has the hard conversations. He reflects. He stands strong when I f*ck it all up. He owns his sh*t. He softens in surprising ways when I own my sh*t.

Orion makes brave choices for love. And he’s easily the most reflective, generous, giving, bold and intelligent human I’ve had the privilege to know.

As I slow down to honor this moment, I gasp at the mist floating over the lake’s mirror and around my beloved. My breath catches. The water reflects more than the colors at dawn. My heart quantum leaps a few paces ahead, walking the fresh morning next to him.

Thank you boo. I love you. ❤️‍🔥

Jane Goodall
I guess it was no surprise that Jane died working, she died in service.

She was one of the most extraordinary people I have ever met - so full of life, enthusiasm, good humour and passion for the conservation work she championed and absolutely determined to protect the planet and all of its species.

In her later years it was Roots and Shoots her organisation for children that was her main focus. She dreamed of forging an army of young passionate planetary protectors out of the school children of the world. She had hundreds of thousands of kids involved from over one hundred and forty countries.

She changed the way we think of animals, especially chimpanzees with whom she had spent so much of her time, and was clearly as comfortable surrounded by chimps as she was with people.

There is some wonderful footage of her with the chimps taken by a cameraman, Hugo Van Lawick, who was clearly in love with her and later married her. It’s an extraordinarily intimate feeling you get watching it, but you can see how easy it was for this man to fall in love with a beautiful woman so passionately absorbed in her work and her bold dream to become an accepted member of the chimpanzee community and take what she learned back into the world.

I was lucky enough to have spent a little time with Jane. She was always ready to help like-minded initiatives, and produced a wonderful and inspiring introduction for our first Interspecies Internet conference.

When she came to dinner at the house, she was wonderful company - sparkling, generous with more than a little touch of Mary Poppins.

She was nearly 90 at the time and we were astonished at all the commitments she had booked into her schedule, requiring extensive travel. She was a woman on a mission - a mission to save our planet and all its inhabitants. Jane Goodall was and will always be an inspiration to the world - and to me.
