My boys are a big reason I do what I do as they both have had their fair share of airway and oral dysfunction. The first photo shows the early external signs of sleep disordered breathing—long face, venous pooling under his eyes, chapped lips, open mouth posture. The second, just 6 months after bilateral tubes and an adenoidectomy, shows real improvement. More symmetrical face shape, less midface tension, better sleep, quality rest, a step in the right direction. But we knew it wasn’t the full picture. I’m grateful for my network to get us to the best people.
Since then, he’s gone through palatal expansion with and oral restriction releases with , supporting the growth his body was always meant to have. The changes in his facial development and sleep quality have been incredible to witness.
Now at 10, we still give reminders for proper oral rest posture and nasal breathing. This is a journey, not a quick fix. But we know we’re on the right path, supporting optimal orofacial development during one of the most important windows of growth.
Early signs matter. Growth matters. Airway matters.
