Are you ready to hear about an absolute rock star? Listen up!
You won't find any grass growing under John Sutton. Sutton, aged 92, is a very active man who says, “I want to do as much as I can for as long as I can.” Active doesn’t seem to cover it, as John rides his bicycle (he calls it a ‘trike’, as it has three wheels) about ten miles daily, regardless of the weather. In fact, John is approaching a milestone of 5000 miles on his bike. He’ll probably reach this milestone within the next couple of months.
John grew up in Bellevue, NE near the Burlington railroad tracks. He was seven years old when WWII started and went on to serve in the army himself. John eventually returned to Bellevue, where he still makes his home. In his life, John has traveled on many planes, including the DC-1, DC-3, Lockheed Continental, and more. He is fascinated by machines of all sorts, which explains his 100+ collection of cameras.
After the army, he made a career out of solving problems, mostly at AT&T. Fascinated by DNA, John holds three patents in molecular biology.
John met his beautiful wife Joann through a friend, who told him, “She wears glasses, but she has nice legs.” The two had a wonderful sixty-two-year marriage. Joann passed away in 2023.
These days John’s first destination of the day on his bike is Panera. He enjoys connecting with people and has quite a fan club. We're so excited to know John and have him as a fantastic example of aging well!
