Please pray for Sean and his team. If you can financially support them that’s so appreciated. Going to every US capital city is expensive with time, money, energy and more. They are half way there… 23 cities to go.

You can give via Venmo, or go to the website. Just give. Abundantly. Give. God will bless your seed.

We went last night to Lincoln and the number of young adults that went forward for prayer was astounding. The enemy would like nothing better than to destroy the next generation.

Time to leave the sidelines. Get involved. The church needs to leave the building. There are hurting people out there that would never go to church but would go see Sean.

How can 2 years go by so fast? Both Elizabeth and Elliott graduated a day apart in 2020. Elliott with his Marketing Degree and Elizabeth with her Masters Degree and a Physician Assistant! What at fun but wild weekend. In Tulsa for graduation on Saturday and immediately back in the car to Omaha for Elizabeth’s graduation on Sunday! So proud of these 2!!💕

What are they doing now? Elizabeth is married (to our wonderful son in law- Thomas Marino) and a Family Practice Physician Assistant in the greater Phoenix area and Elliott just finished his MBA and is job hunting and coaching E-Sports Teams in Omaha.

The Vagus Nerve - Did you know we have a “chill out” button built into our body? It’s called the vagus nerve or the 10th cranial nerve. The vagus nerve is a very long nerve that connects the brain stem down through the neck and into the chest and abdomen. Its primary function is to activate the parasympathetic nervous system (“the rest and digest’) system.

The vagus nerve carries both motor and sensory information, and it supplies innervation to the heart, major blood vessels, airways, lungs, esophagus, stomach, and intestines. It is responsible for: the gag reflex, slowing the heart rate, controlling sweating, regulating blood pressure, stimulating peristalsis in the GI tract, and controlling vascular tone. The good news is that you can learn specific exercises to turn it on.

Consider what happens when your sympathetic nervous system is keyed up - you have a fight with a friend, you’re stuck in traffic, or just got a nasty DM in your inbox. It sends you into “fight or flight” mode which is there to promote survival. When you face a threat, real or imagined, your body wants to make sure you can “run for your life”: your heart rate increases, pupils dilate and other systems you don’t need at the moment are slowed. This means the digestion, immune and reproductive systems turn off.

So learning to turn on the vagus nerve will bring your body back into balance. There are many ways to stimulate/strengthen the vagus nerve. These exercises tell your brain and body... that all is well.

Physical exercises:
- Gargling for 30-60 seconds
- Singing or Humming
- Cold Water Plunge
- “Om-ing” - Chanting
- Belly Breathing (see prior post)

Psychological exercises:
- Gratitude journaling
- Meditating
- Visualization
- Exposing yourself to things that are beautiful (a sunset, nature, play with pets, listening to music)

For better health, we all need tools in our toolbox. These exercises will benefit anyone who wants to lead a healthy and stress free life. Take time today to strengthen your vagus nerve today!

Friendship - Social Media can be a deep dark rabbit hole. It’s so easy to think you have a relationship with an “Influencer” when they respond to a question or when you like their post. But in reality, you’re probably just another number. Please understand, I’m not saying this to be harsh, it’s simply the way the game works.

Real Friendships are vital to your life. (I’m talking to myself too!) We need to sit across the table and talk, share stories, laugh, cry, have long meaningful talks, share in celebrations.... you get the message. We need to hug, shake hands, hold hands, rub feet, and put our arms around a friend when they are hurting.
True friendship means showing up in tough times, especially if your friend is someone who has a chronic health condition. Being supportive and staying connected can actually make a difference in how well they do physically, mentally, and spiritually.

Want some ideas for how to support your chronically ill friend?

1. Be Understanding - They didn’t ask to be ill. So when they cancel plans, seem distant, or like they have too many demands... give them grace. They aren’t trying to be difficult or lazy. Healing is Never Linear. They’ll have good and bad days.

2. Ask them about their illness and their challenges. Do research and learn about their condition.

3. Offer to help them. If they say “No”... continue to offer. Sometimes it’s difficult to accept help because it makes them feel weak.

4. Invite Them - and continue to invite them. Chronic illness” can be a lonely place.

5. Don’t give up on them. They need you!

Even the Bible instructs us to stay connected... in person. In 2 John 1:12, Paul writing to the churches says, “I have much to write to you, but I do not want to use paper and ink. Instead, I hope to visit you and talk with you face to face, so that our joy may be complete.” Bam!!!
What he’s saying in our day and age is something like this: “Let’s not text, email, or even talk on the phone. Let’s meet in person.”

Friendship... Touch... Health... They are all tied together.

I hope this has encouraged you to reach out to a friend in need today. You can make a difference. 💕

Magnesium - Most of us deal with a fair amount of stress in our lives and stress can have a negative affect on (decrease) our Magnesium (and Vitamin D) levels. Increased stress causes us to “burn through” both Magnesium and Vitamin D more quickly.

Why is this important?

Because we need an adequate amount of Magnesium in our blood to cause a multitude of other important chemical reactions to occur within our bodies at the cellular level. It is a catalyst for the conversion of Vitamin D into its active form. Without adequate Magnesium blood levels, additional Vitamin D supplementation may not make a difference.

My top way to increase your Magnesium level is though eating Magnesium rich organic foods. Slide #2 gives you my favorites. If you decide to supplement, there are many forms of Magnesium to choose from. Often, a combination of them is the best.

An especially effective way is to use Magnesium in a topical form. Just place a small amount of the Magnesium gel on the soles of your feet at bedtime. While you sleep, your body is absorbing this rich mineral.

I love utilizing blood work in analyzing health conditions, especially chronic health issues. So the next time your doctor/practitioner checks, and your Vitamin D level is low… you may want to check on your Magnesium level too. This is just a simple reminder that our bodies are extremely complex and sometimes it takes digging a little deeper to resolve a problem.

(Not to be used as medical advice, only my opinion.)

Isn’t it easy to get bogged down by the worries and cares of today’s world? I know it is for me. That’s why it’s so important to have some easy to use tools at the ready to help get you out of this negative “stink’n think’n”.

Here’s 5 ways:

1. Turn off all media for the day. Put on some good music and dance the day away. Movement will ease those tense muscles away.

2. Count your blessings. Journal 5 things you are thankful for today.

3. Take a few deep breaths. Abdominal breathing is good for your Vagus Nerve and will calm down that “fight or flight” anxiety feeling.

4. Get outside and soak up the sunshine. You will get the much needed dose of natural Vitamin D and it’s proven to lift your spirits.

5. Reach out to a friend. Social interaction is proven to lengthen your life.

Which ones will you try today?
Let me know. 💕
