There are many things you can do to make your home more accessible and safer for you age in place. Some are very inexpensive but some can cost thousands of dollars! Think about where your biggest challenges are and seek those solutions first. Talk to your doctor and check with your insurance to see what you need most and if anything is covered and go from there.
Maybe you need a motorized scooter or power wheelchair to help you walk long distances or get room to room. How about a ramp so that you can easily and safely enter your home. Sometimes even just a small transition ramp at the threshold can help! A bed rail or small step stool with a handle can help you get in and out of bed easily! Did you know you can get an adjustable hospital bed that looks just like a regular bed? You can raise and lower them to a height that is safe and easy for you to get in and out bed!

Aging in Place is something most of us plan to do but it takes some planning and preparation. Just a few things to consider...
How about placement of outlets? Raise those outlets higher so they are easier to reach!
Did you ever think about installing a rail on BOTH sides of the staircase or maybe even preventing a fall by installing a stairlift!
Most falls happen in the bathroom. Install grab bars and a shower seat to help you when you're in the tub. Your tub can even be modified into a walk-in tub! install a toilet seat riser! Even something as simple as using a night light can prevent a fall.

Most of us would like to stay in our own home as we age. There are many things to think about if you plan to do this safely. Let's take a look at a few things to think about room by room.
In the living room, remove any barriers or trip hazards such as rugs or replace those rugs with non-slip, no fringe rugs. Use a CouchCane by Stander along with risers on the legs of a couch to make sitting down easier. A lift chair is also a great option if it's challenging to get up and down from a recliner. A Reacher can also help grab those items that may be out of reach once you are sitting. Finally, go "smart." Alexis can control your lights, TV, thermostat, fans, curtains, even some appliances!
