Very cool!

A little boy in Minnesota had trouble walking because of a rare condition. His parents wanted to get him an electric wheelchair so he could move around more easily. The kind of wheelchair he needed can cost more than $20,000, and the family could not afford it. Insurance would not pay for it either.

Because they were struggling, the boy’s father reached out to a nearby high school. The school has a robotics team made up of students who build and design machines. He asked if the team might help make a special wheelchair for his son.

The students did not hesitate. With guidance from an organization that makes modified vehicles for children with limited mobility, they spent weeks working after school to build a custom electric wheelchair just for the boy. They used parts from a toy ride-on car and added a custom joystick and a comfortable seat so the boy could drive it himself.

Soon before Christmas, the team gave the finished wheelchair to the family. The little boy was able to move around on his own for the first time. His parents were deeply grateful for the students’ kindness and hard work.
