I am FORTY. ❤️

This is the last big one on my list of “cancer milestones.” Get to 6 months, get to 1 year, see both babies go to kindergarten, get to 5 years, TURN 40. I can barely catch my breath!

And here we are.

It’s not at all what I imagined it would look like. But who am I to know? I am a fiery ball of love and complication and emotion and strength and smarts and sass and hurt and healing. I’ve been through a lot in these years, and yet sometimes I feel like I don’t know a thing about life yet. But maybe that’s the trick. We never really do.

We just breathe. Live. Continue moving. Breathe again. Love.

I am FORTY. Aging is a privilege, and I am here! I wish you all a moment of joy or laughter or whatever kind of happiness makes your day a little better. Today and always. 💗

Fantastic trip back to H-Omaha this month! My heart is so full and there are many shout outs to give, but most notable is that we celebrated another stable scan 🧠🎉 While this is really great news, we had a very honest conversation with my oncologist.
• I have been inching towards my goal of 1 year scans (every good scan, gains an additional 1 month watch and wait period), but recent medical guidance has changed and now active monitoring every 6 months is the standard. More frequent monitoring isn’t necessarily a bad thing, but I must admit I felt a bit deflated after realizing I wouldn’t hit the 1 year interval.
•Achieving the 5 year mark is pretty incredible, but the next milestone is the 8 year mark. Science says Gretchen will likely return anytime between now and year 8. We’ll keep monitoring for her every 6 months, but we received the message loud and clear - now is not the time to get comfortable.
•There is a promising clinical trial for low grade gliomas that the FDA is now fast tracking. The oral medication show signs of delayed disease progression. This is HUGE! This will break a 👏🏼 2️⃣0️⃣ 👏🏼year gap in treatment advances for the brain cancer community.

After a week filled with talk of cancer, I am ready to give my overthinking, anxiety ridden mind a break. I need to go back to the basics, Faith > Fear.

Our high risk and 40+ friends … reminder … get your mammograms. Life and cancer isn’t fair, just because you’ve had one crazy ass cancer doesn’t mean I’m at any less risk for another. Crazy right ? Don’t worry, it’s true … I checked.
