In honor of World Breastfeeding Week, Methodist lactation consultants visited Omaha’s Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium on Aug. 7 to share expert breastfeeding information, resources and tips. 🤱

CIRCLE MOMENTS: When SHARE Omaha connections come together and create a moment of magic - for good. ✨

This summer, Methodist Estabrook Cancer Center (MECC) welcomed a new volunteer who quickly became an important part of their outreach team. Connected through the SHARE Omaha website, Iman was a senior at the University of Nebraska at Omaha, majoring in Public Health. With a strong desire to help others and gain hands-on experience, she stepped into a role that directly supports MECC’s community outreach cancer screenings.

A massive, heartfelt 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘀 to interventional and structural cardiologist Dr. Jai Parekh and team for being the first in Nebraska and Iowa to successfully repair a patient’s leaky tricuspid valve with the minimally invasive, latest-generation Abbott TriClip 𝗚𝟱 transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) system.

𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬:
When left untreated, a leaky tricuspid valve or tricuspid regurgitation (TR) may progress into atrial fibrillation, heart failure and even death. Traditionally, the only treatment options for TR have been medical therapy and open-heart surgery (which is rarely performed due to the complexity of the procedure and high risks involved).

𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 to cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. HelenMari Merritt and her team for successfully performing Methodist’s and Omaha's first robotic-assisted coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG) procedure. This minimally invasive technique avoids open-chest surgery – 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘮𝘶𝘤𝘩 𝘰𝘧 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘯 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘳𝘦𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳𝘺 𝘵𝘪𝘮𝘦 𝘵𝘺𝘱𝘪𝘤𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘺 𝘢𝘴𝘴𝘰𝘤𝘪𝘢𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩 𝘪𝘵 – to bypass blocked or narrowed coronary arteries and restore blood flow to the heart using healthy blood vessels from elsewhere in the body.

THANK YOU, BACKPACK DRIVE SUPPORTERS! The 2025 Salvation Army 7 Can Help Kids Back to School Backpack Program was a terrific success! In all, 10,708 backpacks were given away. We are so grateful to KETV NewsWatch 7, Methodist Health System, Cubby's Convenience Stores, and Metro Credit Union for making the drive possible. Special thanks to Firefighters on the Move for all the logistical support. This team effort helps ensure that every child goes back to school prepared, and it means a great deal to us.

A special shoutout to Methodist Women’s Hospital, which surpassed 500 births in a single month for the first time since August 2015.
