Last week was incredible.

We officially opened the doors to our new home — and what a day it was. After outgrowing a 3,300 square foot space, we moved into nearly 13,000 finished square feet, with room to keep growing.

Our founder, Amber, stood up and said she'd written a speech but wasn't going to read all of it. Classic Amber. What she did say stuck with us:

"We would not be here without you."

That was for the families who trust us with the care of their loved ones. It's also true for everyone who helped make this building happen. Adam Watson, for brokering a deal that gave us room to grow and C.K. Construction for taking on a project which took a 12-week project and turned it into a 8 weeks one!

And to every single person who walked through the doors yesterday — thank you. The turnout was unreal. It meant the world to Amber and to our team.

This is a totally new chapter for Midwest Community Services. A bigger space. The more families we can serve. More room to do what we've always done — show up, go above and beyond, and take good care of the people in our community.

Here's to what's next.

The most important thing that happens in our programs is the thing we can’t put on a service plan.

It’s the friendship that forms between two people who met up and now text each other every morning. It’s the group that saves each other seats. It’s the person who used to sit quietly in the corner and now won’t stop making the whole room laugh.

You can build a program around goals and skills and independence — and you should. But the thing that actually changes someone’s life? It’s belonging. It’s knowing that people are thinking about you when you’re not in the room.

At Midwest Disability Services, we create the conditions for that to happen. We put people in rooms together. We go places together. We show up, consistently, so that trust has time to take root.

The friendships? Those, they build on their own. And they’re the best thing we’ve ever been a part of.

Thank you to everyone who has donated. This means more than you can imagine. Your support for Liz has been overwhelming. Every donation has reminded her family that they're not walking this road alone.

Liz still has a long recovery ahead. More surgeries, more time away from work, and a lot of healing left to do. If this post reaches even a few new people, it can make a real difference.

If you've already donated — thank you. If you can share this post, that helps just as much. Let's keep the momentum going for Liz. ❤️

The boxes are coming in. The walls are getting dressed. And this place? It's starting to feel like home.

We're officially moving into our brand-new building — and we couldn't be more excited about what this means for the families and communities we serve.

This isn't just a new address. It's a bigger table. More room to do what we've always done — show up for the people who need it most.

We can't wait to open the doors and show you what we've been building.

The grand opening is coming later this month. Stay tuned — you're not going to want to miss it.

"When you find that fit, you know."

Dallas and Kristin Ward were kicked out of two daycares. School was calling multiple times a day. They didn't trust anyone to care for their son, Charlie, the way he needed.

Then they found Midwest Disability Services.

One conversation with Amber. A few tours. Every question answered — no rush, no pressure. And a connection that made two of the most protective parents you'll ever meet feel safe for the first time.

Now? They can't get Charlie in the car fast enough. He's pushing Mom out the door. "We're gonna be late."

That's what happens when the people taking care of your kid actually get it.

Give us a call. Stop by. Bring your kid with you. Let yourself take that deep breath — you might just be in the right place.

Our friend and loved one, Elvira "Liz" Ortiz, suffered a major cardiac event on March 23rd and was rushed to Bergan Mercy for emergency surgery. Only two stents could be placed, and her heart is currently functioning at 32%. She has a long road ahead — more surgeries over the coming months, time away from work, and a recovery that's going to require rest, support, and zero stress.

If you know Liz, you know she's the one throwing the barbecue, showing up for her family, and loving the people around her hard. Now it's our turn to show up for her.
Anything helps — even $1. If you'd prefer to drop off a donation in person, you can bring it to Midwest Disability Services at 9507 Q Street, Omaha, NE 68127.

Please donate if you can, and share this post even if you can't. Shares matter just as much. Let's rally around Liz. ❤️

What does a good day look like for the person you love most?

Our day programs are built around real goals — building skills, fostering independence, and creating genuine community connection for adults with developmental disabilities in Nebraska.

Your person. Your plan. Your pace.
