If someone tells you that you shouldn’t feel a certain way, be sure to remind them that their perspective isn’t the only one. Most that push their perspective and hold it on a pedestal seek comfort in controlling the perspective only they create.

Seek comfort in the vulnerability of assuming another perspective to be true, this is the true path to joy and peace.

Happy Birthday!

Celebrating the birthdate of Mikao Usui, who brought Reiki to the world.⁠

Mikao Usui 15th August 1865 to 9th March 1926⁠

Mikao Usui was born on August 15, 1865, in Taniai, Gifu Prefecture, Japan. Usui Sensei was born at a critical time in Japanese history: the end of the Edo period, the age of Feudalism. Japan was ruled by the Shogunate, which commanded the armies of Samurai warriors. In 1867, political dominion and rule were returned to the Emperor of Japan, and the age of Modernism began.⁠

Usui Mikao was the son and grandson of a merchant family whose ancestry can be traced back to the Chiba Samurai clan. He was not a samurai. Details of his childhood are unknown, so many of the stories on the internet are fabrications.⁠

In the small village of Taniai, there is only one Buddhist temple of the Jodo Shu (Pure Land) sect, where generation after generation of the Usui family’s remains are located. In the same village, there is a Shinto Shrine with a huge stone Torii (gate) where Usui Mikao and his younger brother’s names, Sanya and Kuniji, are engraved. Usui Sanya was a medical doctor in the army and opened a clinic in Tokyo after retirement. Usui Kuniji was a Police Officer in the local area where Usui Mikao was born. Kuniji retired and became a Shihan of the Gakkai and was teaching Reiki Ryoho to local people. ⁠

In 1922, Usui Mikao climbed Kurama Yama (Mount Kurama) north of Kyoto, the ancient capital city of Japan. At the time, he was almost 57 years old, an elderly man whose average lifespan was less than 50 years in Japan. Here, he undertook severe training by fasting and meditating for 21 days. He felt one Great Reiki and became enlightened, it is believed in March 1922. The exact date is not known. Usui Sensei accidentally realised that he had been given a wonderful gift, a mysterious healing ability, in his hands. Why Usui Sensei climbed the mountain and undertook severe training for 21 days is unknown.⁠

Reiki (Shoden): This class begins your journey as an intuitive healer. We learn about your intuitive and innate healing abilities. It has become clear that there needs to be more teaching around our own perceptions of this world that seem innate, but have become somewhat taboo. Things like premonitions, feeling others pain, or hearing advice from an invisible speaker. Some things are so intuitive to so many people, but we just don't talk about it in normal person-to-person interactions. We lean on Reiki techniques to help become more disciplined in your own intuitive healer practice.

Shoden, or beginner level, are about self-healing, self-learning, and self-love. This must be the foundation of your practice and will make you a more effective and efficient healer.

You will learn Reiki hand placements, how to interpret energy and ways to practice working with energy through techniques I've learned and also developed over the years. You will receive one attunement during class that is in the form of a guided meditation.

This class will prepare you for Reiki 2 (Okuden) so that you can continue your studies practicing on others and sending energy through space and time.

Some things we cover in class:
- Reiki history and ideals
-The practice of Seiza using the ideals
-The history of scientific investigation into the human energy field
-Basic anatomy of the body
- Meridians, chakras, and auras
- Energy "blocks" and density evolution to personal disease
- Your own abilities through knowing, sensing, hearing, seeing, smelling
- Sensing your own energy field and differentiating between others
- Preparation to heal and The Heavens
- Holding space for yourself and others
- Self-care with the laying of hands
- Healing using colors, smells, and sounds
- Personal health and maintenance using fruits and vegetable dense meals, supplements and meditation
- Your authentic self and creating a community of support
- Protection and boundary setting

Fall classes are for adventurers and those wanting to experience learning Reiki while staying active.

We will be horseback riding and going on a hike at Mahoney to practice our symbols before we practice on each other.

You will need good walking or hiking shoes and be able to walk 2 miles on uneven trails.
