👏 Faculty excellence meets student distinction!

Abbis Jaffri, PT, MS, PhD, has been named the 2025 APTA Margaret L. Moore Outstanding New Academic Faculty! He is the first Creighton professor to receive this national honor. And recent graduate Mikayla Grocki, DPT ’25, has earned the Mary McMillan Scholarship, one of the highest awards for PT students.

Together, they reflect a powerful culture of mentorship, leadership and excellence in Creighton’s Department of Physical Therapy. 💙💪

For rising second-year student Emma Dubisz, her first year in Creighton’s Occupational Therapy program was all about finding her groove. 💃🕺

To succeed, Emma had to grow in every aspect of her life—building friendships, connecting with professors, developing strong study habits and leaning on academic support like tutoring. “It’s been intense, but also very rewarding because I’m closer to my dream job,” she says. 🌱📚💭

Looking back, Emma wishes she hadn’t underestimated the demands of graduate school. What made the difference was tapping into Creighton’s academic resources and the professors who all genuinely care about student success. 💙 “Not once did I feel like I couldn’t ask for help,” she says. “It wasn’t until I had a few classes under my belt and connected with my friends that things started to get easier!” 🐦💡

This summer, Creighton OT student, Meg Nielsen, is completing her Level IIA Fieldwork at the world-renowned Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. 💙

Drawn to its patient-first values and innovative care, she’s gaining experience in general outpatient rehab working with patients experiencing vestibular disorders, stroke, neurodegenerative conditions and upper extremity injuries. “From my fieldwork, I hope to make connections, help others restore independence, engage in hands-on experience, and delve into research-based practice,” shares Nielsen.

She is most thankful for the support of Creighton Phoenix faculty mentors Sarah Dahlhauser,OTD, OTR/L, and Andrea Fleischman, OTD, MS, OTR/L. “I look up to them as leaders and advocates for the field of OT, utilizing their extensive clinical knowledge to support students.”

Beyond fieldwork, she’s also making time for some fun including visiting family in Nebraska, reuniting with her brother from Spain, celebrating a friend’s wedding in Utah and enjoying a girls’ trip to Vegas! 🇪🇸🎉✈️

Creighton OT student, Kaesee Bumgarner, completed her Level IIB Fieldwork in the U.S. Virgin Islands at JSTherapies, a pediatric clinic known for its child-led, neuro-affirming care. The experience pushed her outside her comfort zone, in the best way possible.

She gained hands-on experience with a wide range of diagnoses, grew in clinical confidence and deepened her understanding of cultural humility. One unforgettable moment? Watching a young client achieve her goal of walking into the clinic on her own for the very first time, balloons, smiles and all.

To make it even more meaningful, her Fieldwork Educator was also a fellow Bluejay and Regis Pathway grad. 💙

Her advice to other students? Say yes to the opportunity that scares you a little; you’ll grow in ways you never imagined.

🌍 Meet Marsky Liang, a Creighton Physical Therapy student from Guangzhou, China. From the bustling streets of Canton to the heart of Omaha, she embraces every step of her journey and every flavor along the way.

At home, her go-to comfort food is Guangzhou, claypot rice— slow-cooked and rich in flavor. In Omaha, she’s discovered a sweet favorite: the Phyllo Pie from Clio. Whether she’s hiking the hills of China or wandering through the Old Market, Marsky finds joy in new places and the connections she makes along the way.

So, what brings people together? “Food and shared passions,” she says. “Joy and laughter are universal.” 💙

Kathryn Milbert, OTD’15, was heading to a service trip in Honduras through One World Surgery when she found not one, but two, unexpected connections—Olivia Odegard, BSN’23, and McCall Bromelkamp, BA’19, also attending the same trip. 🐦

Though they didn’t attend Creighton together, they formed an immediate closeness. “ I have two new friends now, who I would have never had the opportunity to meet. And it was Creighton that really brought us together,” says Milbert.

Milbert works with Summit Orthopedics in Minnesota as an occupational therapist specializing in rehabilitation treatments for injured hands. She assisted in clinic with One World Surgery, but she spent a lot of her time at the children’s home helping young patients and the on-site therapists. 💙
