Last weekend, we held our annual Alumni & Staff BBQ in Idaho, and it was a beautiful reminder of what recovery can build: community, connection, and lasting support.

We had one of our largest turnouts to date, with hundreds of alumni, their family and friends, and staff coming together to celebrate each person who has walked through our doors and each story of strength that Northpoint Recovery has been part of the past 10 years.

To all who joined us and those there in spirit, we thank you for the privilege to come alongside you in your journey. Your strength continues to inspire us, this year and every year.

We can’t celebrate our alumni enough, and we’re excited to keep the momentum going at our upcoming Alumni and Staff BBQs in Colorado, Washington, and Nebraska!

What are your favorite sober activities for the summertime? Comment below! 🤸

One challenge of early sobriety is finding new hobbies and activities that don’t involve substances. This isn’t because there aren’t many sober activities, but because it can take time to find new interests after spending a long time focused solely on substances.

There are plenty of new things to learn and enjoy, and maybe even some old things that have new life when sober! ☀️

What are some summertime activities you’d recommend that helped you in early sobriety? Were they new? Or were they old hobbies that took on new life? Comment below ⬇️⬇️⬇️

A decade of trust. 25,000+ stories of strength. And the clients who continue to show us what’s possible.

Over the past decade, we’ve had the privilege of walking alongside individuals as they take steps toward recovery. Every journey reminds us why we show up — to save lives and restore relationships — and what’s possible when people are met with compassion, support, and belief in their future.

As we celebrate 10 years this summer, we’re reflecting on the lives changed and the strength we’ve witnessed firsthand. Thank you to our clients for trusting us and letting us be part of your story.

June marks both Pride Month and PTSD Awareness Month—a powerful intersection that reflects many of the experiences we see every day at Northpoint Recovery and Imagine by Northpoint.

Members of the LGBTQIA+ community are at a higher risk of experiencing trauma, yet they often face greater barriers to receiving safe, affirming care. At Northpoint, we believe healing happens when care is trauma-informed, identity-affirming, and rooted in dignity.

Whether it’s a teen navigating identity and anxiety or an adult working through trauma and addiction, our teams are committed to creating spaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.

✨ Pride in who you are.
💙 Healing from what you’ve survived.
🤝 Recovery that embraces the whole person.

Let’s continue building a future where everyone can access compassionate, evidence-based care regardless of background, identity, or diagnosis.

The impacts of addiction extend beyond the individual, affecting relationships, family dynamics, and overall quality of life. Left untreated, alcohol addiction can lead to serious health consequences and even death. Prompt intervention through professional addiction treatment can prevent these consequences and pave the way for recovery.

Recognizing the signs of alcohol addiction in your partner can be challenging. However, there are common symptoms that may indicate a problem:

Increased tolerance – Your partner may need to consume more alcohol to achieve the same effects, indicating a growing tolerance.

• Dependence – If your partner experiences withdrawal symptoms like shaking, irritability, or nausea when they don’t drink, it could signal dependence.
• Neglecting responsibilities – Missing work or neglecting household duties due to drinking are signs of alcohol addiction.
•Changes in behavior – Mood swings, secrecy, or sudden changes in social circles could point to alcohol misuse.
• Physical health issues – Unexplained weight loss, poor hygiene, or recurring health issues may be signs of alcohol addiction in a loved one.

If you notice these symptoms in your partner, it’s crucial to approach the situation with understanding and encourage them to seek help.

Mental health is critical for daily life. The human mind is a powerful tool that science has only begun to understand. Mental health is our overall mental and emotional wellness. Mood, feelings, and thoughts all affect our behavior and how we move through the world. Mental health encompasses these aspects of our lives. While we often tie mental health to chemical processes in the brain, mental wellness is also affected by our belief systems, upbringing, and day-to-day behaviors. Poor mental health can lead to a poorer quality of life and drug and alcohol use.

Relapse prevention can help people set health goals and write down triggers that may lead to relapse. They are individualized, adaptable ways to approach the risks and fears of reuse. A written plan can help people stay accountable and honest with themselves, especially under stress or when met with sudden life changes. Patients can feel at ease with a written contingency plan that includes who to call and when to seek treatment before potential relapse. Writing a plan can also help people share their needs with loved ones and family members and ask for help when they need it.

Millions of people struggle with addiction across the United States every year. At the same time, an even greater number deal with mental health disorders. Unfortunately, it is common for a substance abuse disorder and a mental health disorder to be present simultaneously. Answering the question, “What is a co-occurring disorder?” is really as simple as that. When someone has both an addiction and a mental health disorder, they are said to suffer from a co-occurring disorder. Both issues are treatable. Even more importantly, both are treatable at the same time.

Addiction is not just a physical dependence on substances—it’s a complex interplay of biological, psychological, and social factors. What Is a Co-Occurring Disorder Treatment Program?
Addiction is not just a physical reliance on substances—it’s a complicated condition that often intertwines with mental health conditions, creating a cycle that can be challenging to break without professional help. Failure to address this can lead to debilitating consequences, impacting an individual’s health, relationships, career, and overall quality of life. Therefore, obtaining appropriate addiction treatment becomes a matter of utmost importance.

A co-occurring disorder treatment program is a specialized approach to addiction treatment that addresses substance use disorders (SUDs) and other mental health conditions simultaneously. This dual diagnosis treatment is essential because treating only one condition can often lead to relapses, as untreated mental health issues can fuel substance misuse. At Northpoint Nebraska, our co-occurring disorder treatment program includes medical intervention, drug and alcohol detox, rehab, and relapse prevention. We apply therapies such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), family therapy, and one-on-one counseling, all tailored to address the individual’s unique needs.

05/01/2024

He**in is a highly addictive illicit drug. The drug binds itself to receptors in the brain, causing the release of a chemical called dopamine, a neurotransmitter responsible for our pleasure and reward systems. As with most drug side effects, this release is only temporary, which leaves some people wanting more of the high they feel when they use he**in–so they use it again and again. The long-term effects of he**in addiction take a toll not only on the individual but their friends, family, and all aspects of their life.

He**in addiction can stem from other drug use, as well. Sometimes, opioid use disorder begins with legal drugs like painkillers prescribed after surgery or an injury. These pain-relieving drugs act in similar ways to he**in. If a person takes an opioid repeatedly over time, the brain doesn’t naturally produce dopamine as it once did. This results in the person taking higher or more frequent doses of the opioid to achieve the same level of good feeling. When a person becomes addicted to these prescribed medications and can’t obtain them anymore, they may pursue illegal drugs like he**in to achieve the same high.
