Winter is one of the busiest seasons for our hand therapy team, and for good reason. Icy sidewalks and snowy driveways mean more slips, more falls and more wrist, hand and finger injuries — often called FOOSH (Falling Onto an Out-Stretched Hand).
A few simple changes can help you stay safe during the last stretch of winter weather:
• Wear shoes with solid traction
• Slow down, take smaller steps and give yourself extra time
• Choose cleared walkways, even if they’re slightly out of the way
• Use handrails whenever you can
• Stay aware of the terrain as you move
If a fall does happen, we’re here to help. Our orthopedic urgent care is open days, nights and weekends to get you evaluated quickly so you can start healing sooner. Read the full blog for more winter safety tips. https://orthonebraska.com/ice-and-falls/
