✨️Happy National Massage Therapy Appreciation and Spina Bifida Awareness Week!✨️
A Letter to My Clients,
Recently I was asked to make a video of why I love my job. But I ran into two conflicts. 1. I struggle with being in front of a video camera. Which is why many of you don't see me on social media very often. 2. How can I accurately describe how much I love my job without getting a little personal? The answer is, I can't. So here is my story and how it ties into how much I love massage therapy.
I was born with Spina Bifida, which is an incompletion of the spine, and Hydrocephalus, which is water on the brain. In my case, the spinal fluid didn't have anywhere to go but up to the brain. So a shunt was installed to drain the fluid, and I also had surgery to mend my Spina Bifida. Unfortunately, this left me with a very sensitive scar on my lumbar, and nerve damage. Eventually I also developed Scoliosis, which is a curvature of the spine.
Growing up I wasn't the most athletic, although I tried. The constant pain was a challenge, and going to the hospital to check functionality was a little traumatizing. I'm lucky enough to walk and not have to use a wheelchair, cane, or walking stick.
So after a friend scheduled a massage for me for my 16th birthday, as I was already figuring out what I wanted to do with my life, I fell in love with massage therapy. Massage Therapy was the only thing that relieved the pain, even if it was just temporarily. So that solidified my decision to become a Massage Therapist.
My job is not just "a job" to me. It isn't just a luxury either. It's a lifestyle. The holistic approach is my favorite way to live. So when I say I love my job, I mean it. I love healing my clients this way. I don’t like being in pain, and I know nobody else does either. At my core I am a healer. That is why I love my career.
Love,
Alyssa at Gloss Salon and Day Spa
