These gorgeous leaves have captivated my imagination as I tea-blend: “living fossils" from one of the oldest surviving species on Earth, it's DNA over 270 million years old. This plant is one of humanity's oldest vegetal allies; it provides medicine to the cells, the blood, the mind. It is medicine to deepen perception, contemplation, and spirit. Some call it "Maiden hair". "Silver apricot. "A 'bearer of hope'." Do you know what these leaves are? Do you know how they smell? Do you know how they taste?

Tea Season is upon us, y'all. Did you know that we have an extensive list of nearly twenty loose tea blends? We buy many of our teas from Kilogram Tea but some of our favorites are from a local source -- Artemis Teas! These teas are blended by the hands of Andrea Comiskey Lawse, a local herbalist based in midtown Omaha. Her delicious blends promote vitality and well-being. In particular, we love the Huntress longevity tonic, a heady blend of bergamot, orange, lavender and rose, grounded by cinnamon, rooibos and black tea.

In honor of Andrea and Artemis teas, we have created a special drink for September: the Moonbeam. As pale and intoxicating as the moon, this concoction combines fine tea with creamy notes of honey and vanilla. Try one soon

Some of the most rewarding aspects of practicing herbalism are the times when I am able to help clients either significantly reduce or altogether solve the need for using many commonly prescribed medications for non-acute chronic disorders like acid-reflux, allergies, sleep disturbances, inflammation, digestive disorders, mild depression, menstrual imbalances/pain, headaches, fevers (etc.). Many of the commonly prescribed drugs for these problems do not actually heal the underlying cause of the ailment, and therefore must be taken indefinitely if a person does not succeed in correcting the problem by diet or lifestyle changes. Long-term effects of many prescribed over-the-counter medications can be serious, and should be carefully considered. Fortunately, however, traditional Western and Chinese herbalism has a vast array of alternative natural treatments that help the body actually heal itself and have zero harmful side-effects.

Recent studies show a link between certain everyday medications and dementia risk.

It's been a while since I've posted, friends. Since December, I've learned I'm nurturing a new life. Baby is due in August, and so I've dedicated myself to much rest, self-care, and preparation! Posts may be a bit intermittent here, but ARTEMIS TEAS continues to grow, and I'm as busy as ever in my clinical practice, helping others find healing through traditional herbal medicine. I wanted to share this special post by Phileena Heuertz of Gravity | a Center for Contemplative Activism: a testament to the power of plant medicine, and a deeply poignant affirmation of why I choose this work: http://phileena.com/tears-and-kale/

Last night, as I was preparing dinner, I was listening to an interview with one of my favorite teachers, Mirabai Starr, about feminine mysticism. The chicken curry was simmering in the pressure coo…
