The goal of the Telling the Story Project is to raise farm safety awareness and encourage conversation by sharing personal stories about incidents on the farm. These personal accounts can serve as a "cautionary tale" to help prevent future injuries and fatalities.

Who are the storytellers? Farmers, agricultural workers, and family and community members who’ve been impacted by injuries, fatalities, or close calls. Told in their own words, their experiences provide valuable information to learn what went wrong and how to prevent similar incidents.

The common thread is “We don’t want this to happen to anyone else.”

The Beam Helmet Team is conducting a study on respiratory health in the agriculture sector. Our goal is to better understand the respiratory hazards faced by this essential workforce and identify ways we can improve our Beam Helmet PAPR (powered air-purifying respirator) to better protect their health.

We are seeking professionals and individuals with direct experience in various agricultural environments, including areas like:
• Poultry
• Cattle & Dairy
• Corn & Soybean Farming

Your insights are invaluable to our research. If you have personal or professional experience in this field, we invite you to participate in our confidential survey by clicking on this link: https://forms.office.com/r/4gWE1KdkKH

Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH)

The Central States Center for Agricultural Safety and Health (CS-CASH) is housed at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Public Health. CS-CASH is one of 11 National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health Ag Centers. The Center serves a seven-state region including North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri. We collaborate with our neighboring Centers, based out of Colorado, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Texas. Each of these Centers has unique projects and focus areas. CS-CASH focuses primarily on respiratory disease research, injury surveillance, hearing protection, feedyard and bison worker safety, educational needs of farmers, including non-traditional farmers, their family members, and workers. Our goal is to serve the farming community by discovering causes of injury and illness, and communicating information about prevention in ways that reaches as many farmers as possible.
