📚✨ **Read Across America Week at Blue Door Pediatric Therapy!** ✨📚

This week at **Blue Door Pediatric Therapy**, we are celebrating **Read Across America Week** by bringing books into our speech and occupational therapy sessions! Reading is a powerful tool that helps children build important skills while having fun.

📖 **Speech Therapy:**
Stories help children practice vocabulary, listening skills, answering questions, and storytelling. Reading together encourages language development and helps kids learn how to express their ideas and emotions.

✏️ **Occupational Therapy:**
Books also support fine motor and visual skills! Turning pages, pointing to pictures, tracing letters, and completing story-related crafts help strengthen the small muscles needed for writing and everyday tasks.

Most importantly, reading sparks **imagination, creativity, and confidence** in learning. Whether it’s a favorite bedtime story or discovering a new adventure, books open the door to endless possibilities!

📚 This week we encourage families to **read together, visit the library, and explore new stories** with their children. Every page turned is a step toward stronger communication and learning skills!

🌷☀️ **Spring in February?! We’ll Take It!** ☀️🌷

It may say February on the calendar, but today feels like spring — and that’s the perfect reason to get outside and move! 🌿

At Blue Door Pediatric Therapy, we love using beautiful days like this as inspiration for outdoor-themed occupational and speech therapy activities that build skills while kids are having FUN.

🌳 **Occupational Therapy & Outdoor Play**
Outdoor activities help strengthen:
• Gross motor skills (running, jumping, climbing)
• Balance and coordination
• Core strength
• Sensory processing
• Fine motor skills (sidewalk chalk, picking up sticks, gardening play)

☀️ **Speech Therapy & Outdoor Exploration**
Being outside creates natural opportunities to work on:
• Expanding vocabulary (weather, animals, nature words)
• Following multi-step directions
• Descriptive language (“Is the grass wet or dry?”)
• Social skills during group play
• Storytelling about what they see and experience

When therapy feels like play, children are more engaged — and that’s when progress really takes off 💙

❄️✨ **Theme Week Spotlight: Disney’s Frozen!** ✨❄️

At **Blue Door Pediatric Therapy**, we’re bringing a little magic to therapy this week with our **Disney’s Frozen** theme in both **Speech and Occupational Therapy!**

Our therapists are using Frozen-inspired activities to keep sessions fun, engaging, and goal-focused!

🗣️ **In Speech Therapy, we’re working on:**
• Expanding vocabulary with Frozen characters and winter-themed words
• Practicing articulation with sounds in words like *snow, slide, Olaf,* and *Elsa*
• Building sentence structure through storytelling and role-play
• Social skills using turn-taking games and character scenarios

✋ **In Occupational Therapy, we’re focusing on:**
• Fine motor skills with snowflake crafts and sensory bins
• Hand strengthening through themed cutting, coloring, and building activities
• Motor planning with obstacle courses inspired by “icy adventures”
• Sensory exploration with winter textures and movement play

We love creating themed weeks that spark imagination while targeting individualized goals for every child. When therapy is engaging and playful, learning truly comes to life!

❄️ **Snow Day Closure – Blue Door Pediatric Therapy** ❄️

Due to the weather conditions and out of an abundance of caution, **Blue Door Pediatric Therapy will be closed today** to ensure the safety of our therapists and families. Your safety is always our top priority.

Most metro schools are out today due to the snow, but **Blue Door Pediatric Therapy is OPEN!** 💙🚪

We have **time available this morning and early afternoon** if you’d like to get your child in before the heavier snow hits.

If you’re home today and want to take advantage of the extra time off school, we’ll be here all day ready to support speech and occupational therapy sessions in our warm and cozy clinic!

This week at Blue Door Pediatric Therapy, we’re celebrating the **Lunar New Year** in both Speech and Occupational Therapy sessions! 🎉

In **Speech Therapy**, we’re working on:

🗣️ Practicing storytelling and sequencing with New Year traditions
🎊 Building social communication skills through discussion of cultural celebrations

In **Occupational Therapy**, we’re focusing on:

We LOVE helping kids grow, learn, and thrive! ❤️ This Valentine’s week, our Speech and Occupational Therapy sessions will be filled with fun, themed activities focused on building important developmental skills while celebrating kindness, friendship, and confidence.

🌟 **Feature Friday – Meet Our New OT, Rylee Wright!** 🌟

Please help us welcome **Rylee Wright, Occupational Therapist**, to the Blue Door Pediatric Therapy team!

Rylee earned her Master’s degree from **Nebraska Methodist College in 2024** after completing her undergraduate degree at **Wayne State College in 2022**. She has experience working with children across a variety of populations including Autism, developmental delays, sensory processing disorders, traumatic brain injury, cerebral palsy, and more through her work in private practice settings.

Rylee recently moved to Nebraska with her husband from Kansas, where she grew up in a small town. She is enjoying adjusting to city life and exploring all the area has to offer! Outside of work, Rylee loves traveling, spending time with family and friends, and enjoying the outdoors — especially hiking, fishing, and boating at the lake.

We are so excited to have Rylee join our team and can’t wait for our families to meet her! 💙

This week, our speech and OT sessions are going *way up north* as we explore **Arctic Animal Week**! Our kids are learning and playing with polar bears, penguins, seals, arctic foxes, and more—using themed activities to build important skills like:

🧊 Turn-taking, attention, and play skills

🌟 Feature Friday: Meet Emily Edinger, OT! 🌟

We’re excited to welcome Emily Edinger to our Occupational Therapy team! Emily earned her Master’s in Occupational Therapy from Augusta University in 2024, after completing her Bachelor’s degree at the University of Georgia in 2022 🐶🐾

Emily has experience in outpatient pediatrics and works with a wide range of diagnoses including Autism, Down Syndrome, sensory processing disorder, genetic disorders, and developmental delays.

She is a military spouse who recently moved here from Mississippi, but she’s a Georgia native at heart 🍑💙.

When she’s not in the clinic, Emily loves being outdoors, spending time with friends and family, watching sports, and playing with her dog 🐕🌳

We’re so excited to have Emily on our team and can’t wait for our families to get to know her! 👋💙
