AAPT is proud to support Quit To***co Week and the Great American Smokeout TODAY, November 20! This week celebrates those who have quit and encourages others to quit to***co for good. Pharmacy technicians can also enhance their skills with our CE course: Smoking Cessation. After completing this knowledge-based activity, technicians will be able to:

Fred Shackelford is one of the founders of AAPT and a lifetime member. Fred didn't initially choose to become a pharmacy technician, but once he did, he found his calling.

"It happened because I was looking for a full-time job and was recommended by the chief pharmacist's wife to the position in the hospital," he said. "Later, I chose to continue to work as a pharmacy technician when some other jobs were suggested to me. I was comfortable in the role, and I enjoyed the work and my fellow staff and bosses.

When I look back on my career, I am proud of the many technicians and pharmacists I helped train and nurture to improve themselves and become better people. I am also proud of the pharmacy technician association (AAPT!) that several of us built from the ground up! I believe it has been a help to many technicians, and an inspiration to some technicians, to improve themselves and look for a way to provide better patient care."
