We’re proud to highlight the outstanding work of AAPT board member Judy Neville, CPhT, CPST, whose recent article in Pharmacy Times underscores the importance of pharmacy technicians in leadership and education: “Annual Pharmacy Technician Convention Brings Educational Opportunities, Leadership Development.”

"At the 43rd AAPT convention, technicians gained new CE credits, explored expanded roles in advanced practice, and engaged with thought leaders on global health, stress management, and career pathways"

Judy’s work helps elevate the profession by spotlighting how technicians are essential in bridging patient care, regulation, and clinical collaboration. Thanks, Judy, for leading the conversation and advocating for the growth, recognition, and professional development of pharmacy technicians everywhere. 🙌 https://www.pharmacytimes.com/view/annual-pharmacy-technician-convention-brings-educational-opportunities-leadership-development

For nearly 20 years, being a pharmacy technician has been more than a career—it’s been a calling. From compounding chemotherapy for children to filling blood pressure medication prescriptions, AAPT board member Dimitrios Papadopoulos learned that even the smallest actions can help save lives.

“For me, over the past almost 20 years, being a pharmacy technician has allowed
me to make a substantial difference in people’s lives. When I started off all those
years ago, I was unable to see all the ways that I would be helping to save so many
lives. From working for a large retail chain to compounding chemotherapy
medications, I have had the privilege of helping people in many ways.

Being a pharmacy technician, for me, is so much more than counting pills and
placing them in a bottle. It is taking the knowledge that I have obtained and
applying it to make decisions that can help save lives. When I prepare
chemotherapy medications for children, am I saving lives? Yes. When I order
life-saving medications at a big box store, am I saving lives? Yes. When I count
blood pressure medication and place it in a bottle, am I saving lives? Absolutely
yes.

No matter how small it might look on the outside to others, I know that I am
making a difference. That is why I am a pharmacy technician. When I started in a small independent pharmacy in a rural area all those years ago, I had no idea how pharmacy technicians could—and still do—make real differences in people’s lives. Of everything I have done as a pharmacy technician, I am most proud of knowing that my work, whether big or small, truly makes a difference."
