From Hunter Keller
Pre-registering for square dance weekends isn’t just helpful, it’s essential to keeping them going. These events depend on early commitments so organizers can plan with confidence, book callers, secure venues, and make sure everything comes together the way it should. Without a strong number of preregistrations, every decision becomes a financial and logistical risk.
When preregistration numbers are low or nonexistent, it creates real uncertainty. Organizers may have to scale back or even cancel because they simply can’t justify the expense without knowing dancers are committed to attending. If this happens repeatedly, we’ll start to see fewer weekends offered, and eventually, they could disappear altogether.
These weekends don’t happen by accident. They take time, effort, and a great deal of dedication from organizers, all supported by the dancing community. Your preregistration is more than just reserving a spot, it is a show of support. It lets organizers, callers, and fellow dancers know that these events matter and are worth continuing.
If we want to keep enjoying the fellowship, the music, and the tradition of dancing together, it starts with one simple step: preregister early. Even if you think there is only a chance you might attend, consider sending in your registration. Most weekends offer full refunds if plans change, so there is little risk to you, but a great deal of reassurance for those putting the event together.
At the end of the day, preregistering shows that you want these weekends to happen and that organizers can count on your support. Just my two cents.
