- Injuries to the breast do not cause breast cancer. However, an injury may occasionally draw attention to an abnormality that leads to a diagnosis.
Myth: All breast cancers are the same
- There are many different types of breast cancer. Each has its own features, characteristics, and considerations.
Myth: Finding a lump in your breast means you have breast cancer
- Not all breast lumps are cancer. However, all breast changes should be checked by a healthcare professional.
Myth: If you have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 gene mutation, you will definitely develop breast cancer
- Not everyone with a gene mutation develops breast cancer, but it does increase risk, so regular screening and medical guidance are important.
Myth: Breast cancer only affects middle-aged or older women
- While most cases occur later in life, anyone can be diagnosed at any age.
Myth: Men cannot get breast cancer
- Men also have breast tissue, and though it’s rare, they can get breast cancer too.
