Tucked gently into the upper ear — in the small hollow called the triangular fossa — lives one of the most powerful and versatile acupuncture points I know: Ear Shen Men, the “Spirit Gate.”

This point is small and mighty. It’s one I return to again and again in my practice, because it offers something most of us deeply need: a way back into the body when the world feels like too much. A place to soften the edges. A space to breathe, be still, and receive...

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Shen means spirit, the spark of consciousness that lives primarily in the Heart. When Shen is disturbed — from stress, grief, trauma, or the noise of modern life — we can feel disconnected, restless, anxious, emotionally overwhelmed. Shen Men helps draw the spirit back into the body, gently anchoring us in the present with more ease and clarity.

🌿 I use this point to support:

• Anxiety and emotional overwhelm

• Insomnia, restlessness, or racing thoughts

• Nervous system repair & Addiction recovery

• Grief, heartbreak, emotional heaviness

• Trauma integration and PTSD

• Chronic pain and inflammation — especially when there’s a strong emotional undercurrent

• And sometimes, simply when someone feels and unexplained disconnection, from themselves and their life

In practice, I often use Shen Men as part of a full body acupuncture session. Clients say they feel a wave of calm or a deepening of breath soon after it’s activated — a signal that the nervous system is shifting from fight-or-flight into a more parasympathetic, restful state of receiving.

🌙 Whether you’re moving through something big or just need a moment of reconnection — Shen Men is like a door that opens you back into yourself.

I appreciate this post from ___(I lost who posted it but they said feel free to use it!). I appreciate it because it’s humbler; just saying facts. The only thing I would change: I’d put “quotation marks” around “dry needling” because that a new name for something we’ve been doing for centuries, kind like “co-opting”. But things change and modern life takes things apart and changes them because that’s how humans evolve and learn. “Good” and “bad” just become “WHAT IS”. It is pretty awesome that people know that going to see a licensed acupuncturist is far different from seeing someone who just does “dry needling”. Treatments “stick” when we open channels, support deficiencies, and calm excesses.

The energy that flows through your body isn’t separate from the energy that flows through the earth and the cosmos— it’s the same dance.
Just like heat rises, rivers flow downhill, and seeds reach for the sun, your energy follows natural laws. Your body breathes in the earth’s vitality, and offers energy back in return.
We are not outside of nature. We ARE nature — giving, receiving, pulsing with life, woven into the same rhythms that move the forests, oceans, and skies.
Acupuncture helps us reconnect to this truth: that healing isn’t about “fixing” something broken. It’s about remembering we were never separate to begin with.

✨ Acupuncture & the Chakras: A Flowy Correspondence ✨…Did you know that acupuncture points and meridians align beautifully with Yoga’s Chakra system? 🌈 Just like Acupuncture Meridians regulate Qi (vital energy) flow, the Chakras also act as the highways of Prana (also vital energy) in the body.

🔴 Root Chakra (Muladhara) & Ren 1 (Huiyin) – Deep grounding & connection to safety & survival. Located at the perineum, this point anchors energy to the Earth. 🌍

🟠 Sacral Chakra (Svadhisthana) & Ren 4 (Guanyuan) – Creativity & emotional flow. This point nourishes reproductive health & creativity, & promotes and strengthens vitality. 💦

🟡 Solar Plexus (Manipura) & Ren 12 (Zhongwan) – Personal power & digestion. At the center of the upper abdomen, this point strengthens the stomach, harmonizes the gut-brain connection, and stimulates personal willpower. 🔥

💚 Heart Chakra (Anahata) & Ren 17 (Shanzhong) – Love, compassion & emotional balance. Located at the center of the chest, this point opens the heart, calms the spirit, and stimulates free flow in the chest. 💚

🔵 Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) & Ren 22 (Tiantu) – Expression & truth. This point, found in the throat center, helps clear stagnation & opens the voice & communication. 🗣️

🟣 Third Eye (Ajna) & Yintang (Extra Point) – Intuition & clarity. Located between the eyebrows, Yintang calms the mind & enhances perception & intuition. 👁️

⚪ Crown Chakra (Sahasrara) & Du 20 (Baihui) – Higher consciousness & spiritual connection. Found at the top of the head, this point lifts energy to the heavens, and wakes up the sleepy mind. ✨

💫 Acupuncture balances the energy pathways we call “Meridians” and “Chakras”, creating deep healing and alignment.

Yintang: Third Eye Point

Introducing Yintang, one of my favorite acupuncture points. Most Likely to Help You Chill. Located between the eyebrows (yep, we are in Third Eye zone), this little wonder is like the spa day your nervous system didn’t know it needed.

What Makes Yintang So Special?

Yintang is all about calm and balance. Feeling stressed? Overwhelmed? Can’t shut your brain off at 3 AM? Yintang steps in like a zen master, helping you ease into a more peaceful state. It’s like hitting your body’s internal “snooze” button, but instead of making you groggy, it brings clarity with the calm.

Nervous System Regulation

This point is a superstar for nervous system regulation. When life gets chaotic and fight-or-flight mode is stuck in overdrive, Yintang says, “Hey, nervous system, let’s hit the reset button.” It helps balance your parasympathetic and sympathetic systems, guiding you toward a state of rest-and-digest.

Your heart rate slows, your breathing deepens, and that buzzing anxiety in your chest reduces and sometimes disappears. Yintang can also help with headaches, insomnia, and emotional stress. Seriously, it’s like a nervous system whisperer.

Why I Love It

Maybe it’s because I feel the instant “ahhh” moments it gives my clients. I use it on myself when I want calm clarity. Yintang is a go-to for grounding, centering, and bringing you back to yourself. It’s simple, effective, and honestly, a little magical.

If you want to experience the full Yintang effect in an acupuncture session, you know where to find me. 😉

Supporting Women’s Health Through Acupuncture: A Holistic Perspective… When it comes to women’s health, balance is key—but let’s face it, life doesn’t always make that easy. From hormonal fluctuations to stress, pregnancy to motherhood and menopause, women often juggle a host of physical and emotional challenges. I have had my own journey as a single mom, running a busy business, trying to do it all, and often opting to put myself last on the list of priorities. Acupuncture can offer a gentle, natural way to support the body’s systems under stressors and hormonal and emotional changes. Sometimes it feels like acupuncture smoothes out the bumps in an otherwise rollercoater-y ride through the life of the modern woman.

Here’s the deal: Acupuncture isn’t just about needles (although they’re a big part of it). It’s about harmonizing the body’s energy, or “Qi” (pronounced “chee”, or LIFE FORCE ENERGY), and helping it flow freely. Let’s unpack how acupuncture can address some common women’s health concerns…
Hormonal Harmony, Fertitlity & Family Planning, Menopausal symptoms, Managing Stress and Anxiety, Pain Relief without side effects.

In Acupuncture and Classical Chinese Medicine, Wei Qi—or “defensive energy”—is your body’s first line of defense against external pathogens like viruses and bacteria. Think of it as an energetic shield, circulating just beneath the surface of your skin, protecting you from the elements and seasonal invaders.
When Wei Qi is strong, you’re better equipped to fend off colds, flu, and other illnesses. But when it’s weakened by stress, poor nutrition, lack of sleep, or environmental factors, your body becomes deficient, and therefore more susceptible seasonal ailments. Acupuncture treatments focused on the immune system/ Wei Qi :

• Boost your immune system.

• Reduce stress, which can weaken your defenses.

• Address imbalances that leave you deficient and vulnerable to falling ill.

As flu and cold season is upon us, consider acupuncture as part of your wellness routine to keep your Wei Qi strong and your defenses high. Give your body’s shield the care it needs!
