๐Ÿ’ผ Fit for Duty Exams at Integrated Care โ€“ What You Need to Know ๐Ÿ’ผ
At Integrated Care, we provide Fit for Duty Exams that are compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) โ€” ensuring that workplace safety and employee rights are both respected.

๐Ÿฉบ What Is a Fit for Duty Exam?
A Fit for Duty exam is a medical evaluation used to determine whether an employee is physically or mentally able to safely perform their job duties. These are typically used when there's objective evidence that an employeeโ€™s ability to perform their job may be impaired.

โœ… When Are These Exams Permitted?
Under the ADA, these exams are only allowed when they are:

Job-related

Consistent with business necessity

๐Ÿ“Œ That means an employer must have factual, objective evidence (not speculation) showing a concern about job performance or safety before requesting an exam.

๐Ÿ’ก Why It Matters
As attorney Carolyn Rashby explains: โ€œBecause the ADA imposes strict requirements on medical exams, employers should always proceed with caution.โ€

At Integrated Care, we help employers navigate these legal guidelines while keeping the workplace safe and supportive for everyone.

๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ When Should You See a Physical Therapist? Here Are 3 Signs to Watch For!

Dealing with nagging pain, stiffness, or recovering from an injury? It might be time to contact a physical therapist. Here are three signs it's time to take the next step toward recovery:

โœ… Persistent Pain โ€“ If pain lasts more than a few days or worsens with movement, PT can help you address the root cause and find relief.

โœ… Limited Movement โ€“ Trouble reaching, bending, or walking without stiffness? PT helps restore range of motion so you can move freely again.

โœ… Post-Surgery or Injury Recovery โ€“ Whether youโ€™re bouncing back from surgery or a sports injury, physical therapy is key to healing safely and preventing long-term issues.

๐Ÿ’ก Donโ€™t wait until things get worseโ€”early intervention makes all the difference!

๐Ÿง ๐Ÿ’ฅ Ever heard of radiculopathy? Itโ€™s a condition where a nerve root in your spine gets compressed or irritated โ€” and it can cause a lot more trouble than just back pain.

Depending on where the nerve is affected, symptoms may include:

Radiating pain (like from your neck down your arm or lower back into your leg)

Numbness or tingling

Muscle weakness

Decreased reflexes

๐Ÿ‘‰ Cervical radiculopathy affects the neck and shoulders
๐Ÿ‘‰ Lumbar radiculopathy affects the lower back and legs

Treatment options range from physical therapy and medication to spinal injections or surgery, depending on how severe it is.

If you're dealing with persistent nerve pain, donโ€™t waitโ€”get evaluated and explore your options for relief.

06/04/2025

The most common reason someone visits a physical therapist is to recover from pain or injury related to the musculoskeletal system, especially back pain.

Here are the top common reasons:

1. Low back pain โ€“ This is by far the most frequent issue, often due to poor posture, muscle strain, or herniated discs.

2. Post-surgical rehabilitation โ€“ Such as after joint replacements or orthopedic surgeries (e.g., ACL reconstruction, rotator cuff repair).

3. Joint pain โ€“ Particularly in the knee, shoulder, and hip, often related to arthritis, overuse, or injury.

4. Sports injuries โ€“ Including sprains, strains, tendonitis, or ligament tears.

5. Mobility limitations โ€“ To improve movement, strength, or balance, especially in older adults.

6. Neurological conditions โ€“ Such as stroke recovery, Parkinsonโ€™s disease, or multiple sclerosis.

7. Work-related injuries โ€“ Like repetitive strain injuries or lifting-related injuries.

If you're considering a PT visit or are designing a program, knowing the specific condition or goal (e.g., pain relief, improved function, return to sport/work) can help tailor the approach.
