The holidays are here, and with all the celebrations, it’s easy for alcohol to become a bigger part of the season than we planned 🥂
While a festive drink with friends and family can be enjoyable, how much is too much? Drinking more than your body can handle can show up in ways you might not expect, from fatigue, heartburn, and dehydration to mood changes, sleep disruption, or trouble focusing. Drinking too much over time can even impact major organs like your liver, heart, and brain.
Here are a few tips to keep your holidays healthy and joyful:
▪️ Know what a standard drink really is, and set a limit for yourself before celebrations begin.
▪️ Alternate alcoholic drinks with water or festive non-alcoholic options to stay hydrated.
▪️ Eat before (and during) drinking, this helps slow alcohol absorption and keeps your body balanced.
▪️ Plan safe transportation in advance if you’re drinking away from home.
Pay attention to warning signs like unusually low energy, changes in mood, frequent heartburn, or trouble sleeping. These can be subtle signs your body is having a hard time handling alcohol.
And if you or someone you care about is struggling with alcohol use, it’s absolutely okay to ask for help. Our Behavioral Health team at think is here to support you holistically, because your emotional well-being matters just as much as your physical health.
