March is Women’s History Month, and at KVC we are grateful for the women who make our mission possible.

From foster parents and Shared Living providers to therapists, case managers, supporters and advocates, women play a powerful role in supporting children, individuals and families every day. Their patience, advocacy and compassion help create safe and supportive environments where people can grow and succeed.

Today and all month long, we celebrate the women who open their homes, raise their voices and stand beside youth and families in our communities.

Thank you for the difference you make. 💙

You do not have to be perfect to be a foster parent. Sometimes the most important thing you can bring is compassion.

Have you ever thought about welcoming a youth in need into your home? If you are curious about becoming a foster parent in Nebraska, this might be your sign.

Great foster parents are compassionate and empathetic. You care deeply about others and want to support youth who may be going through one of the hardest seasons of their lives.

You may not have experienced what they have. But you can listen. You can care. You can show up.

And sometimes, that kind of compassion can make all the difference.
If this sounds like you, we would love to help you take the next step.

March is Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month.

It invites us to shift how we see and how we speak.

When we talk about disability, we are also talking about ability. Every person carries strengths, gifts and potential that deserve to be recognized first.

At KVC, we believe safety and stability grow when we see the whole person. Children and families with disabilities are not defined by diagnoses. They are defined by their capabilities, relationships, creativity and resilience.

Our role is not simply to accommodate differences. It is to create environments where strengths are noticed, supported and allowed to flourish.

This month reminds us to look for what is strong before we look for what is wrong and to design systems that reflect that belief. Learn more about our Shared Living services here:

You do not have to be perfect to be a foster parent. You just need patience and an open heart.

Have you ever thought about welcoming a youth in need into your home? If you are curious about becoming a foster parent in Nebraska, this might be your sign.

The most important trait in a foster parent is openness to love and support. And one of the biggest indicators you are ready?

You have patience.
When life gets stressful, you pause.
You take a breath.
You respond instead of react.

Youth experiencing foster care have often experienced trauma, loss and difficult transitions. A calm, steady presence can make all the difference. Patience creates safety. Safety builds trust. And trust opens the door to healing.

You do not need to have it all figured out. You just need a willingness to learn and a heart ready to support a youth through hard moments.
If this sounds like you, we would love to help you take the next step.

We are excited to welcome Wendy to the KVC Nebraska team as our new Development Director.

Originally from Reno, Nevada, Wendy now proudly calls Omaha home. With a background in theatre and a Master of Fine Arts in Theatre Management, she found her true passion in philanthropy and advancing social justice, youth leadership and human rights.

Wendy has held senior development roles with organizations including Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska and Amnesty International USA. She is also a dedicated disability advocate and caregiver, deeply involved in Nebraska’s autism community. Her family’s story has been featured nationally, and she is a recognized speaker, including a TEDxOmaha presenter.

Wendy’s heart for helping people aligns beautifully with KVC’s mission, and we are thrilled to have her leadership and passion on our team.

When she is not working, she is the proud mom of two very large hounds and a self-proclaimed expert in mediocre (her words) celebrity impressions.

Please join us in welcoming Wendy to KVC Nebraska. 💙

Prioritizing employee wellbeing is built into how we lead, support and show up for each other every day. These are the same factors that contributed to KVC being named one of Glassdoor’s Best-Led Companies.

Hear from Ashley Brown, President of KVC Nebraska, on how she helps bring out the best in her team:

"I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about knowing everything; it’s about building the right team around you. The best outcomes happen when you focus less on having all the answers and more on creating a strong, committed group of people who can drive the mission forward together.
Every interaction matters. I strive to lead with trust, compassion, stability, and hope because people do their best work when they feel supported, valued, and safe to show up as themselves.
I’ve also learned not to be afraid to ask for help or feedback. Growth comes from listening, learning, and being willing to let others make you better. And finally, leadership should include joy...having fun along the way reminds us why the work matters and keeps us grounded through the challenges."

You do not have to be perfect to be a foster parent. You just have to care.

Maybe you are the person who checks in.
Who notices when someone is quiet.
Who feels it when someone is hurting.

That is compassion. And it matters.

Youth experiencing foster care have experienced trauma, loss and big transitions. They do not need perfection. They need someone who sees them, believes them and stays.

You may not share their story. But your empathy can help rewrite the next chapter.

If you have love to give and a heart that moves toward others, this could be your sign.
