CHD will be closed on Monday, January 19, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

In a time when so many are feeling uncertainty, fear, and division, we pause to reflect on Dr. King’s enduring call to unity, justice, and collective care for one another. 🤍

“We must learn to live together as brothers or perish together as fools.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. ✨

Today and always, we recommit to compassion, dignity, and the belief that coming together is not only possible, but necessary for the good of our communities and our nation. 🌱🕊️

🌟 Mentorship changes lives on both sides 🌟

In honor of National Mentoring Month, we are celebrating the power of intergenerational connection and what becomes possible when wisdom and lived experience are shared with intention.

GrandFriends is a mentoring program for BIPOC young adults ages 19 to 30 who are navigating life’s transitions. Each young person is thoughtfully matched with a seasoned adult who commits to walking alongside them for one year.

Mentors support young people by:

- Offering guidance during key life transitions
- Helping with goal setting and problem solving
- Providing encouragement, perspective, and a listening ear

Through our GrandFriends Program, older adults and young adults come together to:

🎲 Play games and laugh
📖 Share stories and lived wisdom
💬 Build trust through heart-to-heart conversations

These moments create confidence, belonging, and lasting bonds.

💡 What makes a great mentor?

- Show up consistently
- Listen more than you speak
- Offer support without trying to “fix”
- Honor the young person’s autonomy and goals

👵🏾🤝🏽👧🏽 Whether you are looking to give guidance or receive it, there is space for you here.

💛✨ Welcome to CHD, Patrick! ✨💛

When we sat down with Patrick, his heart for people was unmistakable. Before entering the behavioral health field, Patrick dedicated 15 years to OPS, starting as a para, growing into a behavioral skills specialist, and eventually becoming a basketball coach. No matter the role, one thing remained constant: his deep love for working with kids. 🏀💫

Patrick shared a pivotal moment from his first para job at Miller Park Elementary. At the time, he admits it was “just a job.” That shifted when he met a young boy in need who began to take after him. Suddenly, Patrick realized someone was watching him, looking up to him, and depending on him. That awareness changed everything and awakened a lifelong commitment to caring for people in pain.

A nonnegotiable for Patrick when helping others is honesty. He values openness and absolutely no judgment, believing real change happens when people are allowed to be their full selves. “That’s the most meaningful impact we can have. Being able to see where people have started and where they end up is a great feeling.”

Patrick’s journey to CHD was deeply intentional. Though he initially applied for a different role, Doris had other plans and interviewed him for Operations Manager. Within moments, Patrick knew something was different. Her heart posture stood out, and that was when he knew CHD was different too.

Now at CHD, Patrick hopes to align even more fully with his purpose while growing community impact. He leans heavily on his faith, reminding himself, “the more humble I become, the more God can use me.” As Operations Manager, Patrick focuses on creating structure that supports staff who carry significant emotional labor, fostering open communication, accountability, and success. He believes a safe workplace is built on truth, structure, security, and grace. “Working together requires grace to grow and learn.” With steady, service rooted leadership, Patrick is helping shape a CHD culture that is less transactional and more communal, grounded in meaningful work and shared responsibility. 🤝🌱

🌟 January is National Mentoring Month 🌟

At CHD, mentoring is not about having all the answers.
It is about showing up consistently, listening deeply, and walking alongside someone as they grow.

Our GrandFriends Program invites elders and seasoned adults to share wisdom, culture, and real-life guidance with young adults who benefit from trusted support.

💬 Sometimes mentorship looks like advice.
💬 Sometimes it looks like laughter, stories, or simply being present.

👵🏾🤝🏽👧🏽 When generations connect, healing and hope travel both ways.

💛✨ Welcome to CHD, Jazmyne! ✨💛

Some people introduce themselves by their titles. Jazmyne introduces herself by her heart. When asked who she is beyond credentials and roles, Jazmyne shared that she is creative, kind, and deeply considerate. She finds joy in doing things that are thoughtful and intentional, especially when it comes to showing up for the people she loves most.

Jazmyne has a natural gift for noticing what others need and showing up in thoughtful, meaningful ways. She shared a moment that beautifully reflects who she is at her core. While pregnant herself, she noticed a close friend who was also expecting, preparing to welcome twins and clearly feeling overwhelmed. Jazmyne observed the need and chose to meet it the best way she knew how. She created a basket filled with her friend’s favorite pick-me-ups, offering comfort, encouragement, and a quiet reminder that she was not alone. 💞

At the center of everything Jazmyne does is a deep belief in the power of listening. She shared that people often need someone to simply listen when they are struggling, without rushing to fix or respond. She believes that being fully present can do wonders.

Coming to CHD was not planned, but it was purposeful. After receiving a recommendation from her neighbor, she took a chance. With a background in administrative roles but no prior experience in behavioral health, Jazmyne knew she was ready for a change of pace and scenery. More than anything, she wanted to be part of something meaningful. When she arrived at CHD, she shared that it immediately felt like what she had been searching for all along. 🌱

In this current season of life, Jazmyne is most excited about being a new mom and watching her one-year-old daughter, Jayla, grow and reach milestones. Learning and experiencing life together has been a beautiful journey. 👩🏽‍🍼✨ Jazmyne hopes her time at CHD will continue to support her personal and professional growth and allow her to show up fully and unapologetically as herself.

Please join us in giving a warm CHD welcome to Jazmyne Coker, our new Administrative Specialist. We are so grateful she is here! 💚
